Final Cut Pro X

I understand your point eric, but lets wait and see exactly how good this FCXP really is before making any kind of judgement on it. I'm pretty confident its going to be worth the money.

To be specific, I'm talking about current FCP Studio users being asked to "buy all studio apps from scratch" again, should the other components be sold separately. (ie: compressor, motion, DVDSP(?))

IMO, if you already bought into the whole suite, Apple should continue an upgrade path for the whole suit (assuming there will continue to be separate apps, of course). If everything gets rolled into FCPX, then I agree that indeed would be a fair price.

Apologies if my flippant comments have implied that I don't like the "new" interface.

I do like it and as can be seen from this extract from another post, I do not regard iMovie with the scorn that some others do.

Everyone's attitude about what's a "fair" price needs to take into account that not long ago it cost $40,000+ to get into an NLE.

What about Multiclip? I didn't see any multi cam editing features mentioned.
How about Round triping to Motion, SoundTrack Pro etc? was anything different about that? Do third party filter interfaces work any differently?

The price is for the single app.

The last time FCP wad a standalone product the retail price was $999. I would call that a significant discount. Really, if you think the price is too high don't buy it. I think it's an excellent price for the product I saw.

Lets hope they finally add 1080 50P support.

I'm glad you guys have hundreds falling out of your pockets ready to throw blindly at Apple before we even know what's going on... But for small operators like myself, we have to watch our budgets. I've started upgrading my hardware this year (beginning with a MacBook Pro) and had planned to upgrade my Final Cut Studio software (along with other pro apps). $300 is fine... But if I find out I'll need to be tacking on hundreds more for other aspects of the studio suite... well that will force me to hold off upgrading.

AGAIN! Talking upgrade price from Final Cut Pro STUDIO to the new Final Cut Pro STUDIO X. If Final Cut Pro X IS, repeat IS, the new Final Cut Pro STUDIO....

... then that's cool.

well we know that compressor will be included thats a given and it seems clear that DVD studio is pretty much EOL too so whats left? just motion/shake (which is why we had to wait for an extra year supposedly) and soundtrack, can't charge much for just that. seems highly likely that they will be incorporated into fcp x. if they don't what are they going to do then resurrect livetype? highly doubtful IMO.

That was version 4 I believe. A 10 GB hard drive cost about as much as a 700 GB hard drive now, what's your point? If you compare the price of Final Cut Studio 3 (the whole thing) to Final Cut Pro X, a single app, it seems outrageous. I could get FCS3 for $300.

As a followup to the question about upgrade pricing I would just like to ask something along the same line. And let me start of by saying that I'm not against Apple starting over and not having any upgrade pricing for people that have been using Final Cut Studio 3.

However I feel like I am a bit stuck between a rock and a hard place just having purchased Final Cut Studio 3 this week for educational purposes, so that i could get the hang of the product, and currently I'm not making any money in the video business as I'm mainly a still shooter by occupation.

So here's my question. Is there any chance that Apple will offer people that bought the product within a month of the launch an upgrade for free since otherwise im pretty much buying the same product twice but only getting the benefit of using it once, or do I just have to live with the fact that Apple wont be much help in this case?

Cause if they don't have any plans to offer free upgrades for someone like me I'm seriously thinking of going back to the store and ask for my money back (not sure about US laws here, but in Sweden you can return a product within 30 days, and get your money back). Cause even though I have no doubt that Final Cut is a great product, but I dont fancy paying for it twice.

i would try to return it asap personally since the Ed version can't be upgraded anyway last i checked.

Oh, its not the educational edition I'm using. It's the real product, but I'm currently using it for my own educational purposes. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
