Final Cut Pro X

I guess that as Apple has told the world about FCP 10 then (basic) questions can be asked....

1) Do you still need to (officially) transcode into Quicktime? or will it handle say DVCPro HD natively?
2) Is there upgrade pricing or does everyone pay $299 regardless
3) A video I saw had the presenter refer to FCP 10... if I'm using the latest which is 7 where did 8 & 9 go?
Cheers

I don't really understand why they had to go for a totally new GUI, a la iMovie.

I wonder if all the keyboard shortcuts from FCP7 will be the same in FCPX? My main concern is whether I'll be able to make a smooth transition over to FCPX in order to keep my rate of employment up.

FCP is my workhorse, my bread and butter, and all of a sudden I'm faced with taking time out from employment in order to get my head around FCPX.

I kinda feel disappointed that they didn't just implement all the benefits of 64bit processing, sub-frame audio editing, and other little improvements into the current GUI.

Here, here! Was wondering when someone was going to bring up this point.

I'm of the mind set that these editing apps are simply tools.... whatever works for your particular needs is what you should use.
However, having said that, there is a reason why there are different "levels" of editing software available. Some have more MANUAL control over others and that's what some editors need/ require.

GoldenCraig - how on earth do you know if they have 'dumbed it down'?

The new interface looks great to me and RandyU was involved in iMovie, grandfathered FCP and was part of the development of Adobe Premiere...

I am sure he knows where NLE is heading.

Also, its obvious that FCP X is about an interface that could be scaled to a touch gesture based input someday in the future and that's cool.

You haven't been reading, Apple confirmed there are 'updates and more to be announced yet' in relation to Motion and Sound Track Pro etc.
