Motorola RAZR v3i does not sync properly with Address Book!

I have bought the RAZR v3i yesterday, the bluetooth pairing is fine. (which the last version RAZR v3 cannot do, you can only use USB cable)

But the horror comes when you try to sync the phone with your Address book through iSync.

After the sync, your phone's directory will receive partial information from your address book (say you have 150 names, you might get 100), but the worst is the 'name' entry in your phone, you will see a long bunch of alpha numeric characters in the name entry. Basically your directory is filled with gabbage, the phone number for each entry is right, but the names are all wrong.

You properly end up typing the name back to your phone using the numeric keypad. But DON'T re-iSync those update back into your computer, you will LOSE both your phone's directory as well as your Address book database after the sync.

I have spend hours to fix the problem, I guess because Motorola has changed their phone directory mapping (they have add more entries in their phone directory), nothing will work with your Address book.

I cannot simply believe these 2 companies have such close relationship in developing ROKR and fail to have their phone to work with the Address book in a Mac... besides Motorola's phone directory is really really low grade... not very professionally developed... maybe Apple should help them to re-design the whole operating system in their phone rather then just sell them the iTune software.

I have decided to refund my purchase.... until Motorola help to fix this problem, I will stick with my old RAZR which works perfectly with my iSync and my Address book.

Ive just purchased the V3i to replace a V3 which was stolen and I have the same problem with names not syncing properly with my numbers. Bluetooth works fine, but I cant possibly imagine sending all of my 800 numbers by send vcard. I hope apple can fix this problem since I switched to Motorola from Nokia because it would sync without any problems (albeit with USB in Panther) I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the mac osx hint printed here
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060111112609654&lsrc=osxh
I still need to upgrade my OS so I wasnt able to try it, but it would be good to know before I upgrade.
Also, I was quite excited when I heard that the new V3i would be the second phone following the ROKR to come with itunes built in. I thought the partnership would solve any compatability issues with syncing and music. I was disappointed to find out that the music player looks like an itunes browser, but no where does it say itunes and it does not show up in my itunes library. I can copy songs into the music folder via the finder, but application in the phone reorders the songs incorrectly so listening to a mix cd is like listening to it on random. Even after I rename the tracks in itunes it still reorders them incorrectly.
Anyway, it seems ive gotten excited over the V3i for nothing. At this point I would prefer to have my old V3 back.

Luc,
Motorola cannot list Contacts with multiple numbers under one name unlike other brands. This can make searching for a phone number time consuming especially if you have a lot of contacts. The best you can do is to set the phone to view the primary contact instead of all contacts in your phonebook, but you must select one number to be the primary contact and the other numbers you have for that contact will not be viewable. To do this open your phonebook then select menu/setup/view/primary contacts
Ive not found this to be very useful, but its the only way to get rid of having multiple names in your phonebook.

Ok ive followed the DIY and created the plug in.
-created PhonePlugins folder in Library Folder
-renamed plug in with short name
-added tiff and change name to match plug in
-opened metaclassesplist, copied and pasted on line 6
-saved and closed
-bluetooth off/on mac and phone repaired phone

When I open isync and try to add device V3i comes up but is says it is not supported therefore I cannot add it to my list of compatible phones. Bluetooth is on, but I am also connected via USB with the default connection in the V3i set to "Data/Fax Connection"

Ive run into a dead end... what now?

Jan 25, 2006 6:37 AM in response to Jeffree Atizado

I fixed the problem. I upgraded my OS to 10.4.4 and isync to 2.1.1 (previously i tried to add device to version 2.0). After restart the V3i showed up when I went to add device and I was successful at transfering 700 numbers over to my phone via the USB. Thanks very much for the help, this will get me by until apple releases an update to fix the bluetooth issue.

I'im glad to see that you found a solution for your problems. At this stage, I can't help you with your last question. I don't have a V3i and didn't experience altering the Metaclasses.plist myself. Looking for a solution for the newer V3X, I saw the V3i plugin that I passed through to you. I only was the messenger, the real job was done by the guy of the german site.

Good luck with your Razr !

Gilby.

Now I bought the V3X, the 3G version of the RAZR, well the new iSync recognise that the phone, but indicated its not compatible to do the transfer... so guys... keep waiting...

How can this most popular phone from Moto failed to notify Apple before they ship their product...??

Anyways... the 3G quality and the camera is good... except I still CANNOT get all my address book contacts into my phone....

I am doing it manually!

I just bought a RAZR V3 "not V3i"(with the latest H/W and S/W revision) and I have the exact same problem.
I can pair my V3 with my Mac and do all kinds of stuff except with the "name" entry when syncing with iSync.

Apple says RAZR V3 is 100% compatible with iSync.
But I can tell you "IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE AT ALL"

Please Please Please do something about this Apple Inc.
