New Format Sucks!

What the H E double hockey sticks have they done to the format of this forum? It ***** big time. It is neither as intuitive or informative as the old one. I guess I will go elsewhere until they undo this abomination of a format.

Yes, I made a screen recording to try help someone with the Watch a User widget but was unable to use it. Maybe later when some of the more pressing bugs have been ironed out it might be available.

Hi,

I must admit to tending to be very focused about where the help I supplied was placed.

The layout of the old forums didn't exactly help as I focus on iChat which had 4 separate forums spread over 3 categories.

I have found - and it has taken about a week - that you can Refine a List is a Category to "See" the old Forums and that all the previous posts were tagged as such.

iChat 2.1 and Earlier does seem to have gone though (was in the iChat Category that was).

Using these methods and search I seem to be able to find anything that has iChat mentioned.

However I do find that Your View and personalising it seems to to not work the way I expect.

For Instance the Watch a Tag option does not explain you need to drag it to the layout below - I read it as trying to drag a Tag to the widget.

Once I had discovered how to drag it I don't get a list of Tags. How can you watch a Tag if you don't know the tags ? (Rhetorical).

The when I Published it the Your View still failed to show the things I had tagged although the Personalise view did.

I also cannot find anyway of getting the spell-checker to stay at UK English.

Nor does it recognise i words like iTunes, iCal, iChat and so on.

The Old software had faults, mostly due to the amount of use.

Search was hopeless, Forums often didn't display properly, Edits could be done after the subscriptions emails went out leading to confusion and other things about being over-taxed.

At one level I welcome the change.

I am willing to learn how it works.

I just wish it seemed to do what it says it does.

I have heard/read someone complain that some widgets need certain layouts to be used to Display for instance.

I have yet to play with my Browser settings to change the size of the text. I have it set at 14pt and have not looked at the boards in the native 10pt style.

More over explaining what you have found out about how the things work would be better than deriding those that say that are having difficulties.

Does this help?

Well … yes & no. Currently, one of the bugs or quirks I'm experiencing is that clicking on an image like your example above sometimes pops up off-center, on the right of the browser window. That would be no problem except that sometimes most of its right side is not visible & there is no horizontal scroll bar to expose it.

Yet another bug/quirk I'll mention here: I tried to delete a part of the quote above to keep the scrolling to a minimum. That worked OK at first but somehow cursoring to the top of the reply box didn't stop there & inexplicably took me to an entirely different discussion in another Community!

Perhaps all this will work as expected eventually, but for now it is like playing a game with ever-changing rules.

Hey, Joey, well put - I thought this was NEW (it is already August) so I guess i haven't had any problems or efficiency questions since before the change but I am a long time user and I experience similar frustrations - I have tried coming to the forums over the last two weeks (hard drive failure, purchasing new mac in the family) and have been so stumped by the new way it is organizes (as you describe) that I have given up. I am usually much more persistent in finding solutions on these usually wonderful forums (or fora if you are a Latin lover, not the smoochy kind). Hope Apple listens.

Thanks for your thoughtful articulate and complete post
