how do i use my profile picture as my avatar?

It may be that your system is operating differently. I just looked at your profile and the California State flag is your #1 picture (which is not available as an avatar option. Numbers 2,3,and 4 are as the post above shows.

#1 is the original "Bear Flag" of 1846; #2 is a slightly modified version of the current CA state flag. I deleted # 2 and then added it as a "new" photo in the # 4 position but I still didn't get the view that Colin said I was supposed to get on the "Finish or Crop your photo again" page. The same thing happens whether I use photos #2, #3, or #4

As an aside, I had #2 in my office in Sacramento for six years. 🙂

I am at a loss. Hopefully a host will read this and look into it. As a matter of fact, I am going to report your post (nothing wrong) to get someone's attention.

I am trying to make an Avatar also. There is no box anywhere after I upload and crop. It simply will not let me make an Avatar. What am I doing wrong?

As explained elsewhere in this topic, you must earn a certain number of "reputation points" (I believe 500?) to reach a user level (level 3?) to be able to create a custom avatar. For more about points & levels, see this tutorial page.

How did you get this working? I'm in a similar position to you; uploaded additional pictures just to have them there, but like you I don't see any of the options that Barry and Matt and others shared.

Reason I followed up with Romad was because he seemed to have the exact same problem I had - it not being there, despite everyone telling him it should be there, and then it magically appearing. 🙂
