iTunes 10.2.2 no longer organizing library

I have been adding video content to iTunes, and it was working normally. I've got "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to" checked, and when I add the files, they moved into the iTunes Media folder. When I renamed them or otherwise changed them, the files were updated.

I then upgraded to 10.2.2.12 after being prompted to do so. I have rebooted the computer a few times since just to make sure it's clear. (Win XP SP2, btw)

I continued to add video content, but just noticed that although the files are being copied into the iTunes Media folder, they are then not changing when I edit any information about them. When I change the name in iTunes, the filename doesn't change. When I change the video type from Movie to TV Show, it doesn't move the file from the "Movies" folder to the "TV Shows" folder.

Even weirder, when I do try to change the type from "Movies" to "TV Shows" for example, or change the name of the TV show, it creates the folder in the new location with the proper new name/location, but then doesn't actually move the file! Just creates an empty folder.

I have tried clicking on the file and saying "Consolidate Files..." and it does nothing. Both boxes for organizing/copying are checked.

Everything else seems to be working properly, but this is quite frustrating. Any thoughts? Can anyone else reproduce this problem on this version, or is it just me?

Thank you.

Open a free Apple Developer account and you can use the bug reporter tool. However if you want to file a bug report you need to tightly identify a reproducable fault, detail the conditions in which it arises and ideally supply any workaround you have discovered.

In other circumstances iTunes Feedback is probably the appropriate channel. Common problems will gain attention.

"The only way i found to fix it, is to remove the tick on "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" press ok. then go into preferences and activate it again."

I can confirm that once a file has been downloaded to the "Download" folder as /Download/Podcasts/{podcast title}.tmp and stuck there with 10.2.2 if you uncheck "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" click ok, then open it back up and check it, iTunes will move the files from the "Download" folder to where they should have been moved upon download. So far I've only tested this at work with a Video Podcast. Will try at home where I have some TV Shows that I downloaded this morning that are stuck in the "Download" folder to see if the same trick above fixes those without having to move it manually.

I can also confirm that just unchecking and checking that setting does not fix the issue long-term. You need to do that each time you download something.

The .tmp files are what they say on the tin. Temporary. Often these exist as evidence of incomlete downloads. If the downloads are completing iTunes should just be able to move them when they're done. I wonder if you've got issues with Anti-Virus holding up access to the file for scanning which is making iTunes fail to complete the renaming.

No, this is just a bug in 10.2.2 from 10.2.1. My machine at work is seeing the same thing as are two buddies of mine. Interestingly it only seems to occur with video podcasts, tv shows, and movies. Not music. Unrelated to AV SW, or incomplete dls, as the files are actually complete. To reproduce just download 10.2.2 and download the Engadget video podcast or a free TV show - then check the location once the download is complete. They still appear in the iTunes library and play, but the files are kept in the download folder.

Note all you have to do to have the files moved by iTunes is to uncheck and recheck Keep iTunes media folder organized as stated above. The problem is that with 10.2.2 you have to do that after every download - it's not sticking.

Unfortunately I still see the issue on multiple machines (work + home) as do other folks I know. I'm running 10.2.2.12. Is that the same as you setup last night? Perhaps they released a minor update to address this. You can get the version number from Help->About.

BTW - Here's yet another thread talking about this same issue:
