iTunes 10.2.2 no longer organizing library

I have been adding video content to iTunes, and it was working normally. I've got "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to" checked, and when I add the files, they moved into the iTunes Media folder. When I renamed them or otherwise changed them, the files were updated.

I then upgraded to 10.2.2.12 after being prompted to do so. I have rebooted the computer a few times since just to make sure it's clear. (Win XP SP2, btw)

I continued to add video content, but just noticed that although the files are being copied into the iTunes Media folder, they are then not changing when I edit any information about them. When I change the name in iTunes, the filename doesn't change. When I change the video type from Movie to TV Show, it doesn't move the file from the "Movies" folder to the "TV Shows" folder.

Even weirder, when I do try to change the type from "Movies" to "TV Shows" for example, or change the name of the TV show, it creates the folder in the new location with the proper new name/location, but then doesn't actually move the file! Just creates an empty folder.

I have tried clicking on the file and saying "Consolidate Files..." and it does nothing. Both boxes for organizing/copying are checked.

Everything else seems to be working properly, but this is quite frustrating. Any thoughts? Can anyone else reproduce this problem on this version, or is it just me?

I can confirm there is indeed an updated installer with the version number 10.2.2.14, and you must use the Apple download link(s).

32-bit: http://apple.com/itunes/download

64-bit: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1047

To my surprise, this bug does not occur in the 32-bit versions running version 10.2.2.12 (at least on my netbook, running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit).

This issue has been plaguing my main computer, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, for at least the past week. I'll try using 10.2.2.14 installer and report back if the issue still occurs.

Confirming that the issue is fixed (at least for podcasts, not sure regarding other types of content such as TV Shows) in version 10.2.2.14, both on 32 and 64 bit versions.

Btw, mine was on 32-bit Windows XP, so it isn't just a 64-bit thing.

Now that several people have tried this fix, guess I'll give it a try, confirm it myself. Thanks!

Can confirm here that 10.2.2.14 (vs. 10.2.2.14) fixes the issue for me as well on Win7 64bit. Funny how they snuck 10.2.2.14 out there! Thanks for all who helped track this down!

Thanks for finding this "snuck in" update. I downloaded a clean copy of iTunesSetup from Apple just now, and it was 10.2.2.14. Install went normally, and now the library is being organized as it should be. Renaming TV shows, etc changes the filename and changing video type from Movie to TV Show or vice-versa moves the file between folders.

Glad Apple fixed this...

Why doesn't Apple update the version that can be downloaded from the iTunes site? Most people would guess, that this is the last available version even for 64bit systems..

If you download from the website now you will get build 10.2.2.14. For reasons beyond our ken the Apple download site, and it seems Apple Software Update, ignore the minor revision number. If you check for updates when running 10.2.2.12 you will be told that 10.2.2 is the latest version of iTunes.

Even more interesting: The file from the iTunes site has a different file size than the file linked in the support section..

I will just try to use the version from the iTunes site and see if it will fix the issues 🙂

If you right-click the EXE file, go to Properties, then the Details tab, you can see the version number in the File version line.

I always download and install instead of using auto-update. I also keep all the old versions, putting them in subfolders by version, just in case. I have copies going back to 7.02!

I use an external drive for iTunes media. I ran into the same problem and as suggested in this thread, by going into preferences, I deselected keep my iTunes folder organized, clicked okay and closed iTunes. I reopened, deselected to allow the media to be organized and clicked okay. All the media that was being stored in the downloads/tmp folders moved to the proper locations. I'm glad I found that suggestion before deleting iTunes, reinstalling, or moving files manually. Good luck.
