Can't connect FaceTime with iPad 2.

After entering my Apple ID I get a message saying...

FaceTime Activation

Could not sign in. Please check your

network connection and try again.

My network seems to be working fine and am able to access the internet as well as my Apple ID account through the internet.

Please help...

I have the exact same issue with my (64GB, WiFi only) iPad 2;

FaceTime Activation fails every time with a "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again" error; no proposed fix works.

My Apple ID, Apple ID password, and network settings are 100% correct.

Please advise.

hi k-f-null, soem diagnostics may be in order.. try these..... the issue might be concerned with lack of access to certain apple resources for Facetime. Try the following using

  • your default DNS from your ISP and then
  • again with Googles DNS at 8.8.8.8. as has bene suggested.

Diags are:

  1. if you have a mac, does facetime work on that MAC when it is connected to the same network (subnet) as your iPAD?
  2. if your iPAD2 has 3G capability, does facetime work in 3G mode?
  3. while on your network (subnet) can your MAC or other access these domains using the domain names? (use nslookup command or browser to determine if the RESOLVE from your mac or other). Do the same on your iPAD is you have an ssh.app or try and use the safari browser. Just interested to see if the names resolve or they DONT resolve using your DNS's (yours or Googles) .

Hi I've reached this thread through googling my error.

I have just got an ipad2, not the 3g type. Should i be able to get on facetime with this? I want to be able to videocall my sister-in-law who has an iphone4. She has entered my email address and it says "Connecting" when she tries, but nothing happens my end. Same vice versa when I've entered her phone number.

I've read the thread about DNS settings, but don't know where to find them to try changing them.

I'm not sure either what it'll look like when it is working, but I don't seem to have many options when I open Facetime - just me in the camera....

I had no one with which to use Facetime until the iPhone 4s came out. Thank you so much for the help as my new phone works great with another 4s, but my iPad2 didn't work at all nor did my MacPro. Now it all works together. As a reformed PC geek, I am surprised that Apple isn't as simple as so many PC people purport the devices to be.

The 8's have saved the day and a lot of frustration!
