Can't connect FaceTime with iPad 2.

Your DNS setting is not a problem if you are able to extablish a connection at the start. Your chopping sounds like you have a slow internet connection. It might be caused by being too far from your WiFi Base Station, or getting interference from a neighbor's WiFi Base Station.

Thanks for the reply. I am within 15 ft of the wifi so I don't think this is the problem.

Is it possible your iPad (or iPhone) has jumped to a neighbor's WiFi base station that happens to have the same name as yours? There are a LOT of WiFi base stations out there named Linksys! This happened to me a couple weeks ago when the printer suddenly would not work.

One thing you can try is to unplug your WiFi router for a few seconds. Then reset the iPad's network. Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings. You will need to reconnect the iPad to WiFi.

If nothing else helps, try resetting (rebooting) your iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

I should also mention that the person I am talking to with the good connection has 4G. Does that really matter?

Is there a way of increasing the power from my router?

Changing DNS setting to 8.8.8.8 got facetime to work on my iPad 2 - no reboot needed.

I have had the same problem but I asked the other end to upgrade his iOS instead. It is working afterward.

We are experiencing the same problem on one of our iPad2's.

It appears to be an isolated problem with one of our two iPad2's.

Both AppleID accounts could successfully be configured under settings on our working iPad2 but both AppleID's fail on not the problem iPad2.

Both iPad2's are connecting to the same WiFi network and can send and receive iMessages, email and confirm AppleID configurations in iCloud settings.

Changing DNS does not work, nor does disconnecting and reconnecting to the WiFi, nor hard reset.

What else should we try?

Yes, 8.8.8.8 works on my iPad 2 and my iPod Touch. What is mind-boggling is that Apple Almighty does not seem to be able to offer this simple solution to people experiencing this problem with Face Time.
