This forum is one of the funniest I have seen in a while and I just had to get a write it lol,

It makes me laugh about all this about apple being crap etc all because of updating the iOS and it not working on old phones lol

I read in this thread about how apple are money thieving b*****ds, and it makes me laugh?

All app stores have free and payed apps so no argument there and they are all similar apps.

Now my thoughts are... How can they be money grabbing just because they update software etc in new hardware?

So...go buy a pc with 512mb RAM and a processor at like 1.5MHz and run windows Vista,7 or 8....

It won't work? That's because software upgrades with software? People who use and buy apple products know that for the money they pay they will be getting the best device about. iPod, iPhone etc. they started the App Store! They know how to work things! Lol

I owned a Nokia lumia at one point and that was windows 7, I had about 10 apps on it as the phones RAM was that s**t it would not let me download them as the phone can't handle it.

And the same for android phones such as the galaxy, HTC and other popular phones for kids, the original versions of the phones don't run all this new high tech software and games etc... It's called technology... It advances, and that's what customers need to do, if you can't afford a decent phone (new) then don't complain about what works and don't work unless it is actually a bug which on new phones the companies know and will look into fixing it. So accept what your device does or buy a new one. If you can't afford a new one... Get an old crappy thing and leave forums until you have a sensible question.

Can't wait to see what some American has to reply to that? Because if I am correct majority of forum users are American lol

I would say you have fixed more iphone screens than android because more people have sense and own an iPhone, that can be the only answer, it's not different to Xbox and ps3, more of the world population own an Xbox 360 yet for over a year and half everyone moaned about the RROD (red ring of death)... Yet still when and bought another 360? The 360 is a year older than a ps3 and it matches its stats. So it is obviously better in the long run. And this is the same as apple vs other phones. iPhones problems are more due to more customers that's my verdict?

I do have a Ipod Classic... there have not been updates since forever... But well am I still a customer of apple for my Ipod classic 160 gb?? I mean now that u say that if i dont buy a device every 2 weeks i am out of their scope. and my ipod classic is almost 3 years old think....

So.. i am a customer for the ipo 160 but not for my itouch is that what you mean??

lets assume i am still a customer for the ipod 160.... according to you when am i going to stop being a client?? until the next gen? next update?

and well I guess the money that I might spend in music in apple store dont help them making a profit... I just dont see your point... and i am stll a potential customer...well not anymore...

Again agian again and aaaaaaaaagain..

I dont want to install Windows 7 in my Pentium 1

I want WINDOWS 3.1!!

(but aletss u are so oold u have to upgrade.. technologie advances!!! RAM Q4.. blah blah blah blah)

Again as i stated before... and the route this post took (coz really u didnt read you just came here to say that apple is great and to say that we should buy new products)

1.- Apple does ahave free apps (ibooks)

2.- Companies do have free apps (Amazon Kindle, STM, pdf readres, documents to go)

The business come like this.. (again.. u should have known this but u dont read the posts..)

Apples says: I will let you update your free app to a new verson.

Me: ok well i will update to the new version of free ibooks... (click download).. sync...

Apple says: "Ooooh u cant install this new application that I asked u to download or install because u dont have the iOS 2.3.3, u have 2.2.9999999 and we cannot install 2.3.3".

ME: "ooh too bad, well let me download the older version i was happy with anywat i downloaded the last one becasue u asekd me to"

Apple: "NO, i deleteded and u cant have it.... dont try to contact Amazon (just to give an example) because I control apple store and i dont allow old versions in my store so NO"

Me: " mmm well ok it is cool, what do i do? can I ask somebody that has an old version to pass it on?"

Apple: "NO!!, you must do it thorug apple stores"

Me: "But wait... I need some kind of reply my devide cant just stop working like that i am not asking you for a new update or a new app, I ust want my old app..."

Apple: "NO!!, you MUST spend ($250???) dollars in a new itouch and tahts it"

Well i hope this little explanation helps u understand our problematic.... I would say... the problem is not really wanting the new upgrade.. this discussion has that title because at the beginning was incredible this apple practice so people was like.. "Wait.. so i cant? has anybody benn able to???". Sorry for this long interrpution.. the problematic is... Why dont you let me download the last available app for my version????

You would say but if u want windos 95 u cant find it... well that is true but i can buy the CD at ebay or kijiji or craiglist or watever and istall it in my old P1 128 mb!!!! i can get also office verion 1 or whatever... microsoft wont block me like apple is blocking me the apps....

AS a result we have an extremly fancy MP3 player with acces to internet...

and i am not american... and i have some american friends that think like i do... I dont think you have to make it against a particular culture wherever u are from... u have apple lovers in every country as u have apple critics and in some extreme cases heaters....

1st the apps, next the posts here will be blocked. LOL. Trust me on that. Glad to see your post made it through. I guess defending your position and pointing out many of the replies here are lies and dis-info is apparently not excepted here. But if you are pro Apple you can degrade nationalities and post without facts or anything constructive.

Good luck to you. The obvious and legit complaint we have is not sinking in here. The few apps I do have left that work keep prompting me to update them. So it sure seems they're doing everything they can to render my device even more useless. That's NOT an acceptable way to run a business no matter what spin anyone tries to put on it. Older hardware or not, the device should operate with the software I paid for and ran fine on it before. Really that hard to grasp? Sorry but I don't see any company that does this without the option to rollback or download the appropriate version that did work. Once again nobody is talking about newer apps or software here. Just the old purchased apps that ran fine before.

I see u repliedo to the first comment of this topic, so it evoluate do this:

We do NOT want the new iOS we do NOT care about upgrading our itouch. We do NOT care about new Apps. We want the last apps available to our iOS, Personally I would be happy if 5 apps were back...

or we want Apple to let compaies (such amazon) distribute the old apps.

There are 1000s of apps available for the iPod Touch 2G. They are just getting harder to find and the method for finding they is irrationally difficult. Any app the customer backed up still works. But, not having all versions of protected apps always availble to buy at any time is the price we pay for this type of new age dirt cheap software.

In my opinion that is not the problem. The problem is that newer iTunes always wipes out all older versions of apps to constantly update to newer versions when that newer version may no longer work on the device. iTunes use to save all app versions. This should be an option the customer can turn on or off.

Feb 8, 2013 9:24 AM in response to Jim Erlach

well those 1000s of apps i dont know where they are... I honestly dug deep... =( If u have a way of searching Gen 2 apps that u can share with us that would be amazing, that would help us a lot... we can look for simimlar apps than the ones we used to have..

And yep i agree with you... but people didnt know this, so they just said yes to the update and voila... their apps are gone, some guys have advised to the lucky ones that never updated the versions to make a hardcopy of their apps and obviouslty not to update to the newer versions..

I didnt know that about itunes wiping the old versions... =( that is just nasty from apple... I thought that we never had acces to the old versions... now you come and said this... if it is true... it is soo nasty...

Hoping for some ideas...I have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen in great condition and I know (and been reminded by many posts in this forum) that you can't update the OS beyond 4.2.1. I have newer iPad and iMac, but also like and refirb vintage mac stuf (iPod minis and iBooks Clamshells). I had been able to use my iPod Touch as a free phone for in and out calls with Google Voice and Gizmo. But Gizmo dissappeared some time ago. I would like to try and do this again. I thought there was a version of Talkatone that worked with the 2nd Gen iPod Touch (or at least saw a YouTube video on), but can't seem to find it and newest version like many other apps require 4.3 OS. Any ideas on connecting a soft/sip phone with Google Voice to work on a iPod Touch 2nd Gen (with mic)? Suggestions, ideas appreciated. Thanks, Rick

Here's a work around, though it does not work for all apps. It does work for Dropbox and some others. You'll need a copy of the old app either from Time Machine or someplace else (we had an older not updated computer with a crapped screen (3 yr old iMac if you're interested, one month past Applecare) that we could pull the old app from.

Delete the unwanted, updated apps from your iTunes. You also need to go to acct/music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/unwantedapp x.x.x.ipa and trash that file. You gotta trash the file or this doesn't work.

Get the old app file into the acct/music/iTunes/Mobile Applications folder. I used a geek stick but you can share the file any way that's easiest for you. Now here's the trick...click on the old app. It installs itself into iTunes and when I synced, voila it's on the iPod. No longer a crappy mp3 brick, at least for Dropbox. I swear to you, my 8 year old mini is a better mp3 player for the car than the Touch, at least I can change tunes without looking at a touch screen.

I envision all kinds of hassle and this doesn't work for all old apps, one that I really needed won't connect to the internet but will load onto the Touch. I'll keep at it. The other pita is that you now have to check every single freaking app that iTunes wants to update because they keep updating them out of utility for the 2g. For example, today's updates included Public Radio Player and when checked...2g is toast.

Eventually I'll update to a new Touch, but now Apple is making disposable toys instead of useful tools. And the "it just works" mantra? Not so much. Hey give it a shot.

So you cant update the 2nd Generation ipod touch anymore?
