Guess what, it is the producers of the apps that say that you have to update them. And the Hardware can't handle it. it is like trying to play a Playstation 3 game on a Original Playstation. It isn't going to work because your too cheap to pay for something. your no longer a customer of someplace if you bought something 5 years ago. if you want something that is outdated, stick to your cheap phone.

Feb 1, 2013 7:28 PM in response to Kat.Alexandros

(sigh)

I have contacted companies directly that sell stuf through their apps... and they say that the only one authorized to release old versions is Apple......... which won't coz they want me to buy a newone...

I dont want to play PS3 gamees in my PS1... i want my old PS1 game... the one that is there but they dont want to release.... iit is different.... I dont want any of the new apps... just the old ibooks and the old ireader and my old public transit system schedule... thats old... I dont care about new apps... like at all...

Feb 1, 2013 8:11 PM in response to aletss

Ok, then if you want them to release the old apps for the people that can't update, tell them, there is a nice littlepage called apple.com/feedback that instead of yelling about on a thread that they won't read, you can provide feed back on. and they do read it... it used to be that you could not call into tech support if you was out side your 90 days, and now they have not only applecare protection but apple care plus. Most companies are good companies, you just have to go about getting what you want like an adult, and go through the correct channels.

Feb 1, 2013 8:58 PM in response to aletss

That's the thing these apple fanboys don't get. Nobody is asking for older hardware to run the latest apps. Folks would just like to be able to use the apps they paid for on the device they paid for. Don't let em fool you into believing it's the developers. It's Apple plain and simple.

How hard would it be for iTunes to recognize your IOS and download the older version of the app?

As far as all this "hardware can't handle it" crap goes, they are full of it! Yes there are many apps that require a camera. But who would bother or care if they don't have a camera on their device to begin with? I'm talking apps like Angry Birds, Temple Run, Hillclimb Racing and other apps that do not require a camera, gps, etc. Those same apps have no problem running on older Android devices. Even most apps listed as incompatible can be side loaded or older versions can be found. On much inferior hardware to the 1st or 2nd gen ipod touches btw. So the excuse about the hardware is not entirely true.

There are too many tablets with much better pricing and hardware out there anymore. We will see how Apple's business practices work for them down the road here when the 3rd and 4th gen touches suffer the same fate. Don't be shocked if this happens sooner than later. The 4th gen touches we have are getting slugglish with the latest IOS according to my daughters.

I guess we should just take the advice of others here and "put it to rest and like it!"

apple does have exellent devices and there operating systems has lots of information, which means that older devices cannot keep up with it. For some one that only uses it for games is using there iOS device wrong. androids are good for people that really do nothing with there devices but play games. iOS devices are for working people, or artistic people, that are used to software and hardware being out of date in 6 months, and that is getting mad because your sushi went bad in a day but your Twinkie is still good after 5 years. If you want a serious product, go with apple, if you want a portable gaming device that can make phone call go with android.

Feb 2, 2013 5:56 AM in response to Kat.Alexandros

My original goal participating in this thread was to obtain a work around to get the apps that no longer work back to functionality on my iPod 2g after an unexpected hang up and forced restore. Going to backed up apps from Time Machine does not seem to work.

Many respondents spend much time implying that owning a 2g is tantamount to not keeping up with the times, or not being "working people, or artistic...used to hardware being out of date in 6 months." Sushi? Expensive, overrated, and not so good after a short time, are Apple products the same? I prefer a longer shelf life.

I am a working person, though not very artistic. If you get sick, I just may be taking care of you. When I spend $200 on a device, I expect it to be usable for more than a year. Especially when some app developers and Apple seem to be able to maintain app compatibility while others don't. aletss and others have it exactly right, and if this isn't an intentional act on the part of Apple than it is sheer ignorance and disdain for the consumer.

We can probably also agree that moaning on this forum is not a solution to the problem, and I suspect many have provided feedback to Apple. But attacks on respondents and calls to stop posting on this dead horse of a thread? If you don't like reading it, don't read it; perhaps for some there is catharsis in understanding that their frustration at having to dump $2-300 every two years is a bummer. Or maybe, just maybe, some smart respondent will come up with a solution, and we can all rest easy.

Feb 2, 2013 6:51 AM in response to Kat.Alexandros

hey...!@ Kat do really knw what you are saying Androids is only for gaming....you gat to be kidding me, android OS have more functionalities than iOS, take your time to visit android market place...most of the apps you'll be paying for on iOS is even free on android market....talk of functionalities, android devices are independent not like iOS devices one will be needing PC (iTunes) to make some file transfer...some android devices even uses direct usb port, T-flash memory card, bluetooth connect to whatsoever kind of mobile devices...what can be more to have value for your money...you need wakeup man...have use iOS and i have android teblet 2 with me now...i hope u know what i mean....dont want to mention product name...but i can tell you the different is clear....to me have made my choice...you can't even compare iOS 5 with ICS 4.0 not to talk of Jelly bean...uhm!

Feb 2, 2013 8:12 AM in response to Kat.Alexandros

Kat.Alexandros:

I already contacted them, their solution was:

" Oh I am so so soorry hearting that from you... but because we apple care about you and our valuable costumers we will give you a solution: Buy a new one...."

I am also a working person not very artistic but let say that understand the electronics inside machines that expects a product to last more than 6 months if I spend US$300. I know that people in the small multimedia industry likes apple ( I dont know about hollywood or the big ones), but i have not or have ever seen an itouch as an "artistic tool", nor even a playing thing (which is useful while waiting in lines), It was a mp3 player with many tools "to make" my life easier. where i coul read and look up my public transit schedule... Look at my phone (not apple) 3 years old still working with the same old apps developed for it back then...

And please dont forget that twinikies are out of market now =(

(By the way i forgot to thank you for the suggestion on the recycling thing)

I loved your reply, you got it all...

Feb 2, 2013 10:28 AM in response to aletss

Well put aletss, david, and pymus!

Most good companies read their forums as well as their feedback pages. When they see their customers are not happy they at least try to come up with a solution. Not Apple obviously. Their response is a simple "buy a new one" and their forums are filled with their minions who don't like to hear people dogging Apple because they feel ripped off. Are these forums here just to talk about how great Apple is or what?

Face it, Apple is so arrogant with their "too big to fail" mentality they care less about their customers. Charging top dollar for their products and services that outdate faster than most. Meanwhile they have to reinforce their factories with safety nets and bars to curb their workers from jumping to their death. Nice! LOL!

I think you should be lucky. Look at Microsofts WindowsPhone. Support was dropped less then a year out for software updates and hardware support lasted 3 months with most manufactures. I am very happy with my iPhones since Apple store support is great and I get updates for quite some time. That may change but how knows. The one thing for certain is that I will never buy a Windows Phone ever again. Apple has earned my support.

You've already decided to not buy an apple device in 3 to 5 years, so the people complaining is no longer an apple customer. You can't yell at a company that you havn't bought anything from, especially since you signed the teems of agreement that stats that once you purchase the device it will get out of date included the software. Now when you do desire to spend money on something that works read the terms of condition. There is a reason it is there. And guess what all of the designer weither it be fashion, game, interia, advertising uses Mac an iOS device, but because most people don't have Macs because they don't need the processing speed, the display quality and functionality its made for other devices. also apple products if you keep them up to date an treat them properly they will run for a long time. I have seen an original iPhone that ran perfectly other than it just last year it was dropped. The iPhone has better display, better processor, I've even seen an android and an iPhone drop from the same height, and the android shattered while the iPhone had a little dent.

Feb 4, 2013 2:46 AM in response to Rampart

Btw the factory is mostly machines, the hardware is too small to have a human do much other than making sure the machine works, so that is not fact of any sort of the imagination, and you are not an apple customer. I bought a accer computer, it started craping out in a year, and after a year I had to get another and I'm not an accer customer anymore. If you don't buy something after your warranty expires your not a customer anymore.

You are joking right? About 1% of your replies make sense. Where do you get off or come up with this garbage who is and who isn't a customer??? Haven't bought anything from? Signed terms of agreement? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? So the 3 ipods we own were delivered by the Apple gods? Your idea of who or what is a customer is thoroughly ridiculous. Is there some kind of Apple club or cult I need to be in to have the privilege of being considered a customer? You obviously know ZERO about business.

"Most people don't have Macs because they don't need the processing speed". Again, that comment alone shows how credible you are. Most can't afford one!!!! I will guarantee you the 3 pcs I built in my house would run circles around a Mac. All 3 built for less than the top tier Mac. Macs are built solid and run a better OS than it's counter parts. Other than that I've never heard a performance freak say they needed to get a Mac for processing power. That's not even including the pc gamers either. Once again your statements show you are nothing more than a fan-boy-girl or an employee.

"Also apple products if you keep them up to date and treat them properly they will run for a long time" Oh brother! Read the topic again. The products are not able or meant to be updated. Most things do last if you take care of them regardless of the company. In case you missed it that's some of the frustration here. Buy something for a stiff price, take good care of it, and then be told it's not worth anything just buy a new one. If we were talking about milk or toilet paper that'd be acceptable. We are talking about a device that does not work the same as it did when purchased. Plain and simple. Not like we are expecting to play a Bluray disc in our VHS players. But I do expect to play all my VHS tapes in my VHS player.

There have been many replies here. While I may not agree with some they at least bring some valid intelligent points to the discussion. Not this garbage

  1. Androids are only for games and break easy
  2. people expect outdated hardware to run the latest and greatest
  3. it's the app developers not Apple
  4. you are not a customer because your device is old
  5. you are not a customer is you are not happy with product.

Just to name a few.

BTW, I've replaced over 5 shattered Apple screens for people and not one Android. So do I claim Androids are built better? No I'm not blinded by consumer loyalty like some here. I just call it like I see it.

So you cant update the 2nd Generation ipod touch anymore?
