How can I sync my iPad up to my iPod?

Its possible I know because my friend did it.

Otherwise how do I update my iPod 3rd Gen to iOS 4.3

iTunes does not work because it says its updated fully and its on 4.2.1

Can you help me?

You cannot synch an iPad to an iPod. What you can do is synch your iPad and your iPod to the same library that is on your Mac/PC, provided the library is not too big...

If your iPod will not update past 4.2.1, then its not a 3rd Gen, its a 2nd Gen. I'd bet its only 8 gig too...

There should have been a simple pop up explaining that certain apps would fail to work upon update. That has not happened. And it's impossible to roll back to previous working versions it seems. And that is wrong dammit!

And that is what everyone should be concentrating on! That's the message that Apple need to get, because otherwise, long term, this happens...

Significantly, rather than building a loyal user base (early adopters), this is making people like me - who have been using Apple products for many years - move away from Apple. They are creating unneccessary ambient hardware waste due to a poorly executed set of update procedures.

.. and ezppl is correct, the procedure is poorly executed.

i agree, this is a bunch of crap dealing with apple's apples marketing scheme - they just focus on re-inventing the wheel each time they release a new product every 6 months and dont offer support after a couple of years.

i am a long time apple user and now it seems they are all about getting bigger, not better.

i just got a new mini and right out of the box it had a smudge on the screen. after waiting a month to get one, and then waiting in line for who knows how long - after going to the store one of the manager was acting like it was my fault.

instead of waisting so much time and money on adverstising a products u cant keep in stock why dont u make more and pay the people more $ & give them more time to make it!

Picture if you were to update Windows or Linux, only if you have the newest Pc of the year. Imagine for the moment that if you have a pc with only windows XP or Vista and you could install the new app or programs just for windows 7 or 8. Well that exactly is what apple is doing to consumers.

Let’s just not try to denied, what is all true, don’t try to fool you’re self, apple is all for the money and they want their products to only exist the amount of time they want. I’m engineer on computer systems and I know that they could develop updates for all of their line of products; they don’t do that, it’s better for them just to update their last product on the market, just because that way obligate you to buy the next big thing. I repeat you can make one update for all of your products just the way Microsoft keep give updates for all their OS, Sony, Samsung, and Nintendo all of them update this way.

This comes with a big cost; it’s very expensive for a company to address this way the problem, but normally all companies do. Apple doesn’t care if you’re first, second or third generation of devices are now dead, they want you to get rid of them and buy a new one. That’s apple goal, and you can surf the web and there are millions hundreds of people that know this. Is just a big nuisance, Apple is known for creating a very strong and compelling line of consumer products.

Their products are very well built and have a great amount of technology and they are the best on that department. That we all can agree on. But at the same time is not committing to support the devices they make for longer than a year or two. That is a big shame, not because they are doing thing wrong, but because this is there strategy of marketing and sales. They just want you to buy every year iPod, Ipad and so. This is a big win for them but where this let the consumers. So next time you buy apple product remember this. I am from Mexico and my English is terrible but I thing I made my point. I’m just trying to help people to make their best decision for the future.

I agree that allowing your apps to update to an OS that your device doesn't support is bogus. Especially in regards to resetting to fix a lockup problem. For my own sanity I'll choose to believe this was simply an accident on apples part and not some sort of back-handed way of forcing users to buy a newer product. It might even be a flaw in the way the app-store functions, and the companies that developed the apps needed to include the code to prevent this on there end. Either way I'd liken it to that situation were NASA crashed an observation satellite into some Jovian mass or whatever because they failed to notice they were using data figured in metric instead of the English standard. Even smart people (especially smart people) are prone to overlooking simple problems.

Anyway, solutions. Download a program like iFunbox onto your desktop/laptop computer. This will allow you to backup your apps in there current version and reinstall them in there non-updated format. It will even work on non-jailbroxen devices provided they are apps you bought. Of course this will only work if you backed the app up before the upgrade that eliminated it from existing on your device.

Thanks for the solutions you give me; I’ll probably do what you said to try to fix the problem. But in all honesty I don’t think apple is ever going to address this problem, I do understand that everybody is up to make mistakes; after all we are all humans. But this one was planned that way, is just a way of making business, after all apple never obligate anybody to buy their products and if you do buy one, then you are part of the problem.

You will find that before you know it, this generation iPhone, iPod and Ipad will be obsolete in less than a two year window. First and second generation Ipad is already out of the equation. I am not mad to devices evolution, I am Ing on computer systems and I know things change.

But what I don’t understand is that a big company like apple is not addressing this problem, they can do it and even if this is a difficult and expensive thing to address, they are a big corporation with a lot of money to address something like this.

They don’t do that because that way they force people not to stay too much time just with one device, they rush one product every year; they don’t make a product to last more than a year. I simply don’t see any mistake here I see a business opportunity for them. But I want to see thing the way you do and the bottom line is that only apple know the real true, here is hope that in the future apple address this problem for future divices, and do thing like many other companies do.

I've got to agree with TheParent. Same thing today, 2g device went into recovery mode. Ok, plug into iTunes, what's next? Recover from backup. Cool, last backup an hour ago...go for it.

Hey, where's my NY Times app? My Micromedex? My DropBox? And all the rest? No problem, they're still on the computer, hit "INSTALL". Not so much. Come to find every one of the updated apps requires 5.0.

So I'm stuck with an pretty standard calendar, alarm clock, email (maybe, haven't tried THAT yet), and basic app device that doesn't do what I bought it to do. It ain't that old, and incidentally, newer than the 3 year old iMac with the bad $500 screen.

My solution? Use what I got. Hey, drug books still come analog, and they don't s*&t the bed when they're updated.

Doesn't seem to be any solution other than a new device anyway.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

Of course you're correct. One could go into Time Machine and find the newest version of the app that is compatible with the oldest device used, and delete the newer apps. Thank you for a considerate reply that unfortunately does not address the core issue.

This means that any newer devices used with the computer also use the older app version, and so this policy limits useability to the oldest piece of gear used synced with it.

Wouldn't a simple programming fix as suggested in an earlier reply be more sensible? Somehow these various apps coexisted on my device with the updated apps on the computer, until I was forced to restore the ****** thing because it decided to go into recovery mode. Or simply warn on updating apps that the new update will only work with 5.0 and not earlier versions?

If I believed in conspiracy theory I'd say it's a money making thing. Rather, it's just the latest in a series of unfortunate Apple faux pas that are quickly adding up to non-reliability.

So you cant update the 2nd Generation ipod touch anymore?
