"Netflix is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

Netflix is a blessing on the AppleTV. I've been enjoying it for the greater part of a week. Suddenly, while watching an Instant Streaming title... the quality lowered considerably. I paused the title, exited to the menu, and tried to launch the title once again (after checking my internet connection!) It did not try to load, it merely displayed the error: "Netflix is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

I exited out to the menu again, and noticed that the Movie Poster images while I had Netflix selected were not "Suggestions For You" but rather "New Arrivals." It had never shown the "New Arrivals" before.

I unplugged the power cable and gave it upwards to 5 minutes. I plugged the cable back in and tried once more. The Movie Poster images were back to being based off of "Suggestions For You," so I had high hopes. Nope, once I tried to select a title... the same error greeted me.

I have gone to the website on my 13" Macbook, and I have streamed Netflix over my PS3 console to confirm this is indeed an AppleTV-problem. Netflix is not currently unavailable.

I have unplugged the device once again and will leave it sit for an hour or more.

I am incredibly dissatisfied with this predicament, especially considering I will now waste a majority of my day-off trying to fix this error to simply enjoy a few films on the one day I can.

Thanks.

AppleTV 2, iOS 4.3.2, NOT Jailbroken.

One time I had no sound on Netflix. Then I discovered I had no sound at all on the Apple TV, not even the clicks and boops in the user interface. I tried qutting and restarting iTunes, resetting the Apple TV, unplugging the HDMI and plugging it back in, disconnecting the power from the Apple TV and reconnecting it; everything.

Then I realized that I had just been watching cable TV, something I rarely do. Perhaps when I switched from the cable input to the HDMI input, the audio didn't get the memo. So I turned the TV off and on again, and that fixed it.

Now who would have thought it was the TV?

My point is that the problem may be in some unexpected place. Expand the scope. Check even the things that seem to be unrelated to the problem.

If Netflix can't send you a TV program, then they can't tell you that their service is unavailable. (If they can't talk to you, they can't talk to you.) The message is coming from the Netflix app in the Apple TV, not from Netflix itself.

Apple TV bad, Computer bad

If neither your Apple TV nor your web browser can get Netflix, then the problem is with something they have in common, like a router, a modem, or your ISP. Maybe the ISP is blocking it.

Apple TV bad, Computer good

If you can't get anything at all on your Apple TV, but you can get it all on your computer, then there is no problem with anything that the Apple TV and the computer have in common. The router, modem, and network are okay. Your Apple TV is messed up. Have a fresh pair of eyes check the configuration. If the settings are okay but the Apple TV still doesn't work, and iOS is current, take the Apple TV back or buy a new one.

Apple TV good, Computer good, only Netflix is bad

If you can get everything BUT Netflix on your Apple TV, and you can get everything including Netflix on your computer, make sure your Apple TV has been updated to the current version of iOS. If it still doesn't work, contact Netflix.

The reason for updating iOS is that there might have been changes in the Netflex app to accommodate changes in Netflix. You might have a mismatch; an older version of the app that isn't compatible with the way Netflix is streaming these days.

thank you Joe. if the loophole was closed in the last week.. then that would be why its gone away. its funny, my 3 year old gets better programs in the US than in canada.. so.. the crtc probably doesnt like that.

I'll have to get someone to change the DNS back.. I dont know what the original numbers were.

thanks again.
