can I ask a plain-dumb-simple user question? You all say flash is dead

Can't say I have seen a lot of that in this topic.

However, Adobe has quit making Flash for mobile devices and never even made Flash for iOS.

I use the ipad to watch live soccer and ALL of the sites use flash, all of them... it's very annoying that a device like the ipad forces me to download puffin or something else to watch a live stream with even more lagging.

Which sites?

As stevejobsfan0123 noted, have you looked for a specific app in the App store?

Thanks for your replies.

if you go to www.rojadirecta.es you can click on any soccer (or other sports for that matter) game that's there and you'll see that all of those streaming sites use flash. I downloaded puffin and photon browsers to be able to watch them in streaming from other devices but the delay and the break ups are frequent and they just don't get the job done. I've tried the same sites with the Asus prime transformer and, since it supports flash, everything works fine. GET THE ASUS you might say...well, no, I love my ipad...:)

I do love my iPad, but I'm looking for what I thought was an easy thing. I used to make photo books etc. on Walgreens photo. Now, I can't because it requires flash. Do you know of any online sites that don't require flash for such a thing. You sound like you are a good resource, any ideas?

well, again, check around ..... for example, this article seems to point to two differnt apps available in the App Store which talk directly to watching content on your desired site.

You should be encouraging Walgreens to get with the program. Flash is slowly going away and Walgreens is ignoring literally tens of millions of potential customers and the revenue they would provide. Send them a polite email requesting they support iOS devices, the most popular mobile devices on the planet.

Walgreen's does support iOS.

You can order photos though it does not seem you can order a photo book.

I also watch soccer (Euro Cup at the moment), and I just downloaded the ESPN app. I actually found out what you have to do to make it work, and it seems to be working well so far.

can I ask a plain-dumb-simple user question? You all say flash is dead and everyone is going towards html 5, i have no problem with that but my little tiny reality is different than yours apparently... I use the ipad to watch live soccer and ALL of the sites use flash, all of them... it's very annoying that a device like the ipad forces me to download puffin or something else to watch a live stream with even more lagging.

Flash isn't going away but producers need to know that they have to use AI - adobe illustrator to produce it in a format compatible with HTML 5 standards. But flash is made the same way just the output has changed, no more straight up swf files at least not on iOS. So producers will have to output it in several formats for now and eventually just HTML 5 formats. Adobe has a great article on it...just google it.

Adobe has announced that as of August 15 Android users will no longer be able to install Flash through the Google market place. Adobe also annouced that Flash will not be supported on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and recommends users not install it as it could cause unexpected issues.

Now before the Flashdroids start blaming Apple for this it must be pointed out that Google said Android was up to 900K+ activations per day and claims to be the most popular mobile OS on the planet. If that is so why did Adobe decide to deprecate Flash on Android?

Flash is officially dead on mobile platforms people. End of story.

No, it is NOT flash if the output is HTML 5. Most Adobe products now have the capability to do Flash, HTML5 or other formats AS THE OUTPUT. If the output format selection is Flash, then the output is Flash; if the output selection is HTML5, it's HTML. Not the same thing.

No, flash is not dead yet, but it's very looking at retirement.
