Artwork Tab for TV Show Grayed Out

Not only is the artwork for season 4 of "Numb3rs" not showing, but the tab in the information window (command - I) for artwork is grayed out and not selectable. Any ideas on how to fix?

I just finished downloading the Happy Endings free episode to an external drive and it was fine.

To recap, this issue (no artwork and grayed tab) only happens on my NAS. Both internal and external drives showed no issues.

I will pass this on to the Apple Rep who has been dealing with my case and I will continue to post results here.

The Apple Tech Rep just got back with me:

I appreciate your patience while I've been looking into this for you. From what I was able to find, it appears that downloading directly to network shared storage is not something that iTunes supports directly; it's definitely possible to download to an internal or attached hard drive and back up to the network storage location, but the software was not designed to direct iTunes Store downloads directly to a network device.

I asked him what has changed and waiting for his reply.

I am having the exact same problem... My solution (convoluted) is to download on another computer (happens to be a PC) to a local drive while my main iTunes repository is running (happens to be a Mac) off of my NAS with home sharing enabled on both. Once the download finishes on the PC it immediately sends the properly downloaded file to the Mac and loads it onto the NAS. It's messy, but it works.

Has anyone got any further with this? Same as people here had multiple NAS (MyBookWorlds) linked to Time Capsule with ethernet to MacMini, has been fine for over 2 years but only recently not been getting any album arts directly from iTunes. However if downloaded, select multiple TV Shows (same Series) can drag and drop an image into the cover art. Still not ideal as i like the High Res pics especially for displaying on AppleTV!

There has been no official fix for this problem. Since using network-attached storage is not officially supported by iTunes, a fix may or may not happen.

I'm sure that there are many people who are experiencing this problem. Please let Apple know that this should be fixed. The easiest way to do this is to provide feedback. This can be done from within iTunes by selecting "Provide iTunes Feedback" from the "iTunes" menu.

If it helps, here's the (inconvenient) solution I've been using to download TV shows:

• Before opening iTunes, unmount the network-attached storage drive that contains the iTunes library.

• Open iTunes. Because the network-attached storage drive is unmounted, iTunes should default to downloading to the computer's hard drive.

• Close iTunes after downloading.

• Mount the network-attached storage drive.

• Open iTunes. Because the network-attached storage drive is mounted, iTunes should revert back to the location specified in "Preferences."

• Select the "File" menu, go to "Library" and then go to "Organize Library..."

• Select "Consolidate Library" and click on "OK." This copies the downloads to the network-attached storage drive. The copied file is how it should be with artwork and information.

• The original download remains on the computer's hard drive. It can be deleted after it's been copied.

While this works, it's annoying. Lately, season passes are my new headache because they were downloading automatically! Since then I've had to uncheck two options in "Preferences" under the "Store" tab:

• Automatically check for available downloads

• Automatically download pre-orders when available.

Then I can follow the steps above and download when I'm ready.

I ended up migrating my library to a PC running iTunes instead of a Mac. This turned out to be VERY easy as all i had to do was bring up the PC iTunes and point it to the location on the NAS where my iTunes library was stored. Now, I have always stored my ENTIRE iTunes library on the NAS, including settings etc.., not just my media folder.

The PC version does not have this problem at all. Like some on this thread, I have a library that exceeds 4TB, which is not practical for local storage. Also, I am basically using iTunes to serve this media to my AppleTV. I lament not being able to use my Mini (which is PERFECT for this) as an iTunes server, but until Apple addresses the issue, I basically have no choice.

i am also having the problem with doctor who, season 6. i am running itunes 11. i have no network access or anything else like that set up, just normal itunes library. i downloaded a tv episode from itunes and tried to change the artwork, then itunes froze, crashed, and upon restarting, the artwork tab is greyed out and the episode is showing no cover art. i have found that redownloading the episode from icloud makes the artwork reappear and the tab to be clickable again, but i still want to change the artwork.
