Tether iPad to iPhone

Is it possible to tether the iPad to the iPhone and use the data plan off the iPhone? And if so, would you need the 3G iPad or could you use the iPad with WiFi?

Same here, I just bought an iPad 2 and was able to tether it to my iPhone 3G with the help of this article:

I only have a 1 GB plan but from what I can see (difficult to view historical data usage with my carrier) I'm only using a fraction of this.

Having the ability to share the data plan was also one of my key questions before buying the iPad so I'm very happy with this result!

I have an iPhone 4 (5.1.1) and new iPad (wifi 5.1.1). I'm on an unlimited data plan that supports tethering (Australian carrier) but can't seem to tether my iPhone to my iPad. Am I doing something wrong or should I have forked out for the 3G iPad?! haha, thanks guys 🙂

found my answer, don't worry!

if you're in Canada with Rogers doing their little 3 month scam unlimited trial thing.. then you wont be able to tether, as tethering is disabled during their scam unlimited plan..I can't speak for other carriers.. I use Rogers, and have a 6gb plan.. which I tether to my iPad all the time.. but its not an unlimited plan.. its 6gb.. so tethering is allowed..

but some companies offer truly unlimited service, and allow tethering.. I know in canada, theres only manybe 1 company that offers TRUE unlimited service, and I don't think you can tether with it... as I said Rogers has a 3 month unlimited Trial.. but its just a scam to get people use to having unlimited data, then they drop you down to 2gb so that you go over on your data every month and have to pay their outrageous overage fees..
