Okay, Goat400, I see your heart is in the right place -- sorry to hear about you losing your iPod 6 months ago at a party. (I'm gonna now test 'Find my iPhone,' right away...I think a Setting has to be set)

Re: My brave adventure in RESTORING THE IPOD TO IT'S ORIGINAL SETTINGS. I got little info from Apple support site: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12124

On that page it had a strange sentence: " Important: Restoring iOS software on iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad deletes your information, but doesn’t erase it. Deleted information can’t be accessed through the device’s controls... but it remains on your device."

Thus, that strange sentence, above, made me suspicious.

But the solution of RESTORING TO ORIGINAL SETTINGS you mentioned, I've seen here and there, and I was finally ready to take the pluge.

I was ready for a complete FRESH START.

In order to make it clear for myself and to any others who may be interested I speak plain English. I'd consider Item number #8 a WARNING.

FIRST

ON THE MOBILE APP, I WENT TO 'SYSTEM/GENERAL/RESET' and clicked: 'Reset All Settings.'

When the connected iPhone/iPod came back to Life:

1. All my many, many purchased apps disappeared.

2. All the downloaded music was gone.

3. There was a hassle...hahaha...a hassle when having to configure/startup the iPod again, from it's now purged state. The first hassle was having to locate, of course, my WiFi ID and get wifi going again.

4. The second hassle...hahaha...can drive you temporarily insane, because you can not - no - not able to use existing Apple ID and password. You get a message saying: 'Sorry, that Apple ID is already in use" ...haha...so you can't just 'Sign In.'

But, you/I may wonder, if you Create a New ID will you be able to get any stuff (apps/music) that may -- hopefully -- be still out there, somewhere, on Apple's Cloud.

5. Solution to this realized when getting a repeative on-screen message about maybe you forgot your Apple ID Password. This message tells you to go to "iforgot.apple.com" (seriously). So I went there and pretended I had forgot my password, reset my password to a new password, and yea, this worked; I was in.

6. Into my account on iTunes I was relieved to see all my many, many purchased apps were still there - but how to get 'em back? -- how to 'tell 'em' to download.

7. That was discovered when clicking on the Tap on iTunes for your iPod and you get the screen with tabs/options for Summary, Apps, Music, etc. and clicking on the Apps Tab got to a list of all my many, many mobile apps and I could, had to individually click each and every one I wanted back, clicking: Install, on a button next to their name.

8. Initially downloading only my valued and most used apps, doing a sync, the apps were back, successfully downloaded but: ALL DATA THAT I HAD IN THESE APPS WERE GONE! GONE FOR GOOD.

What data? Well I have a simple financial/bookkeeping app that I use to keep track of several common accounts: Debit card, Credit card, Bank Checking, Bank Savings, Secret Stash, and, of course, the one for my International Commodities & Currency Trading Account.

Not only was the info in the Accounts gone, but these Accounts didn't even exist anymore. I had to set them up again.

What other data? Well, I go shopping 'cause we all need to eat and thus I had a nice GroceryGadgetPro that had an extensive list of the foods I like, created over the past year. And an already pre-selected standard Shoppingt List. And...I learned to like...the app will learn as you shop so that what you check off on your list first it will remember, what you check off next, it remembers, so not only do you have a shopping list but when going on your normal route through the store the list can be automatically re-ordered this way (what order you tend to get items) -- Or re-ordered by store aisle number (which is a piece of 'metadata' I also had with my food items --- ALL GONE. NOT IN THE APPLE CLOUD.

Most fortunately, all this info was on a web site for this grocery app. So on the mobile app I set it up again, entering my Grocery Web Site ID and password and hitting sync -- bingo! -- Everything was back. Praise the Lord.

Also I had Notes, Errands, Reminders, Brilliant Ideas, Business Proposals, Musings and many other text -- I learned something here -- All the Notes, Errands, Reminders, Brilliant Ideas, etc. on most of these types of apps were GONE - GONE FOREVER. They had no Apple Cloud. They had no Web Site Cloud.

The good news, besides learning something, was that most of my writing was on a nice high quality app, MacJournal, and it perfectly synched with it's desktop companion (in an old fashion synching way, no thru wi-fi...had to set that up again)

What I learned was to never again use those apps with data that don't synch or have an iCloud backup.

Then I had to tell my TVGuide app who I was and where I lived again, etc. etc. etc.

Then I setup, through the iPod Tab in iTunes, the info to download some of my music again. After this I took two aspirin and went to bed listening to Pandora Radio (which, once I re-established that account, synched again to my music favorites).

Oh, it was a Great Time! There's nothing like that total, complete, sudden shock of glaring at your computer and fully thinking/feeling: "OMG! I LOST EVERYTHING!"

It sort of clears out your system and focuses your thoughts.

Another nice thing with a Fresh Start -- you do see things in your procedure that can be improved, and I decided not to download all my many, many apps since most of them were unused -- I just downloaded what I used and truly liked; that felt good. Fresh Start.

And, of course, I got to arrange, again, all my apps onto a couple of screens, set-up folders again, put things in folders. I even got better at sliding those icons around; that's what Fresh Starts can do for you.

P.S. The front-facing camera, the one used for Facetime, still did not work.

Camera shutter PROBLEM SOLVED on my iPhone 4. It looks the shutter locking is due to moisture. I dried the phone using the cold very dry air from an air conditioner outlet for one hour. The shutter began opening lickety split, better than ever before.(refrigerator or freezer wll not work!!!! - will not dry the phone internals) .

A guy on Youtube suggested drying out an iPhone 3 in the sun to solve Wifi operation problem and I decided to try on my iPhone 4. The trick worked, camera shutter opens in about 1/2 second rather than 4 or 5 seconds or never. To remove moisture from the phone, I suggest the A/C trick as more effective and safer than sun or hair drier. Other possibility could be the 2 day jar of rice treatment. RS in Kuala Lumpur

WHAT AN INTERESTING IDEA! -- I'll try it ⚠

...and report back.

I want to be as LEAST INVASIVE as possible.

Firist, I'm going to pack it in some Silica Gel packs I have hanging around (from photo gear). See if that does anything.

Second, If needed, I'll try putting it over the air conditioning vent.

Maybe do both.

RS in KL -- If you have the link to that YouTube example, that would be interesting to see.

Thanks.
