Missing Calibri Font

I know this question has been asked before, but my question is ever so slightly different! So here goes...

Whenever I start Pages I get the message about the missing Calibri Font. I recently switched from PC to Mac, so almost all of my Docs came with me. I did however convert them all to Pages Files because I totally ditched MS.

Now I know that Calibri is an MS font and that it's not one that Pages uses, but the really annoying thing is that I have never used Calilbri in any of my docs!! Let's face it, it's not really that nice... I have used my Ipad's Pages and MS Word together for a long time now, so always pick fonts that work together.

I know that one fix for this annoying "Some Warnings Occurred" box is to copy the text to a new document and resave it, but we are talking over 50 docs here, and that would take a little while to do, time that I really don't have right now. I run the SPA programme on WikiAnswers.com and all these files are used dayly, so it's really annoying to have the "Some Warnings Occurred" box pop up every time I load a doc! It really slows down the whole process!

Anyways! My questions is really what can I do about this box? Considering that I have never used Calibri, nor do I want to, I am finding it really annoying!

It's like MS's one last joke at my expess... Like it's sitting there, laughing at me knowing that it's still causing problems! Or maye it's' just payback for ditching it (¬_¬) Mean old MS....

Same problem here. I am adding sections to a document as they arrive via email and one of the most recent brings up the Calibri warning. First, I tried changing the font to something obvious like Schoolhouse Cursive, which would be easy to find. It wasn't there. I then copied the document and started deleting sections of it. After quite a few iterations, I am now down to one blank page and STILL get the warning. If there is nothing on the page, then where is the Calibri font? I don't want to change it to something else, I want to GET RID OF IT, but can't, because it only exists in the warnings.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Jeff. I considered that but, unlike Windows, I don't see a way to open a styles page. Under "View", I can open the "Styles" drawer but that appears to contain only paragraph styles, font size for various headings, etc. but no actual fonts for any of the styles.

FYI: I'm on Pages '09, v4.1 and the document in question is in page layout mode though I have seen the same issue in word processing mode.

Hi Fred,

What Jeff says, plus...

You mentioned that you were building the document a section at a time "as these arrive via email." Each arriving document likely contains the 'offending' font in a style definition (used or not used). Each may need to be reviewed and have the font substitution done before transferring the doc to a new Pages section.

If you had Office for Mac 2011 installed, your issue with missing Microsoft fonts in Pages '09 would be resolved for you. The licensed Microsoft 'C' fonts (e.g. Cambria, Calibri, etc) are distributed with MS Windows, MS Office, and Office for Mac 2011. Any non-Microsoft web source for these fonts is violating Microsoft's license terms.

That is exactly what is happening. I should probably do the interim step as you suggest, then the font would not be present when copying to the main document. Thanks for the suggestion.

Viking - No Office for Mac here. One of the many things that tipped the decision to drop Windows and buy Mac was when I learned that I could use iWork rather than Office for Mac. So, not only was I able to divorce Bill Gates but also didn't have to pay him any more child support. Decision complete.

If you have Microsoft OneNote installed (available for free on Apple App Store) then you already have the Calibri and many other Microsoft fonts on your Mac however these fonts are only available for OneNote.

Here how to make these fonts from OneNote available system wide on your Mac.

  • Open Finder then select Go to Applications from the menu.
  • Right click on Microsoft OneNote.app and select Show Package Content
  • Go to the folder Contents -> Resources -> Fonts
  • From there double click on the desired font (ie Calibri.ttf, Calibrib.ttf, etc). This will open the font in the Font Book application. From there you can click Install Font.

Note: by default, Font Book will install the font for the current user only. If you want the font to be installed for all users, select Preferences… from the Font Book menu and change the Default Install Location: from User to Computer.
