Duplicate iPhoto events in iPhone/iPad sync

I'm getting duplicate iPhoto events showing up when I try to sync my iPhone and/or iPad. These events are not in duplicate in iPhoto itself. I have tried repairing the iPhoto database and it's file permissions. I have no idea why iTunes reads these events like so (see included screen shot). Any help would be appreciated; thanks in advance.

@rwross,

I did not take a glance in the direction of MobileMe 😉

-a side note, they need to spit and polish MobileMe for some of us-

Well it seems I am perhaps 4th or 5th time lucky - but not holding my breath just yet.

Again I followed the "AndrewN7 Observation", Rinse and Repeat four times and it appears to work. Each time I substituted step 2 to sort by a different choice, for the first few times no change. I shut each app down and tried again til there was smiles all around. I have yet to try it on iPods, TV1 or TV2 being a little hesitant.

Thanks again

I had an odd moment of success :

plugged in iPhone

made sure iTunes closed

opened iPhoto, at the bottom of the screen when you import photos from your iPhone I checked "Split Events"

closed iPhoto

opened iTunes

Duplicate events gone. Synched phone.

To test,

I plugged phone back in. Duplicate events back.

I closed iTunes, opened iPhoto, unchecked "Split Events", closed iPhoto...

Then reopened iPhoto, checked "Split Events", closed iPhoto, reopened iTunes and duplicate events gone again.

Will try to reproduce this again

What an annoying bug... just when I started to realize how hooked I am on Apple stuff due to the interconnectivity between iPhone-MacBook / iTunes-iPhoto... so ironic...

Connect your iPad or iPhone to computer.

Open iPhoto

Go to VIEW --- (Bar at top)

SORT EVENTS

BY DATE

BY TITLE

MANUALLY

Whichever one you have checked (date, title or manually) check a different one.

Close i Photo

Open iTunes

Sync device

It should give you all your events back with all proper photos in appropriate event.

I'm finding you have to do this every time you sync.... choosing a different SORT each time.

For now this is working for me.... not very convenient - but, it's a bandaid!

I spent a good 45 minutes with a senior-level Apple tech about this problem over a week ago, and he told me someone would get back to me "in a few days." You've solved the problem, and I thank you. My Events were going to my iPhone broken up into multiple folders with the right name, but instead of 50 photos in one folder, there'd be a total of 50 in 5-10 folders. many many thanks, Steve.

I would say, not only is the problem not "solved," it's not solved. Since Apple reorganized these discussion forums, let's hope -- not speculate! -- that they are monitoring them. Marking a problem as solved is a fine way to have it disappear from Apple's radar screen. So, from now on, we users should agree:

  • There's a difference between a solution and a work around.
  • A feature is broken if it used to work before and now doesn't. The list of events that iTunes displays is broken. It used to always display exactly the events that are in iPhoto. That is no longer the case.
  • A solution is a sequence of operations that causes the broken feature to work once again.
  • A work around is a sequence of operations that circumvents the problem, but does not solve it.

All the solutions suggested thus far qualify as work arounds. In 9.1.2 the event list does not always display in iTunes the way it does in iPhoto 9.1.2. Certain manipulations in iPhoto can bring the two lists back into agreement, but they don't remain that way. And, of course, reverting back to 9.1.1 avoids this and any problem 9.1.2 might cause, but does not solve them, since a solution to a problem in 9.1.2 presumably must work when that version is installed.

As others have stated, my intention here is not to detract from the work arounds that have been suggested, but to ensure that we don't absolve Apple from its duty to solve it until the absolution has been earned.

You guys wann know something really kind of sad? We were talking earlier about how iPhoto Library Manager and other apps have this same issue, but guess what? The team at iPhoto Library Manager have already fixed it! Don't believe me? There most recent update 3.6.6. was simply to do this:

"Worked around a bug in iPhoto 9.1.2 that would cause multiple entries to be displayed for some events in the event list"

Surely Apple has more money, resources and people to fix this faster, no? What's going on?
