Duplicate iPhoto events in iPhone/iPad sync

I'm getting duplicate iPhoto events showing up when I try to sync my iPhone and/or iPad. These events are not in duplicate in iPhoto itself. I have tried repairing the iPhoto database and it's file permissions. I have no idea why iTunes reads these events like so (see included screen shot). Any help would be appreciated; thanks in advance.

Many thanks to AndrewN7! His advice worked perfectly. I followed these steps and fixed two iPads that had the same problem.

1. Open iPhoto and select View>Events>Sort>Reset Manual Sort

2. Then select View>Events>Sort>Event Title (I assume you could select one of the other options too)

3. Leave iPhoto open

4. Open iTunes after the above is complete

5. Select your iPad in the left column

6. Choose the Photos Tab in iTunes

7. Select the Events you want on your iPad (there should be no more duplicates)

Great work Andrew!! Thanks. Art

Anybody having this issue?..... events are being separated using same event name, but, it looks like all photos entered on same date are creating a new same name event. So if you've added photos to an existing event, you end up with several events with the same name. This happens on iPad and iPhone when syncing from iTunes on computer. What a mess!!!!

I saw some funny behavior, and it came back when I connected another device. I would connect my iphone or iPad first. Open iTunes and see the messed up duplicate events. Then just completely shut down iTunes. Open iPhoto and go through the steps outlined to resort the events. Then I would start iTunes, click on the. Device and go to photos tab. Now the events should be rearranged and you should be able to sync. I hope. It works.

I appreciate everyone's efforts, however, if you don't sort your events by title or date, the current solution is not attractive. I manually cluster my events by category for quick recognition retrieval (clients/family/personal, etc.) so, sorting by any other method won't work. I still find that creating albums for events I absolutely must be able to view on my iPhone works the best for now until Apple cleans this up. It's very simple and not time-consuming and I no longer think about it when I sync. For now! Of course, maybe I'm dreaming. If Apple engineeers weren't on top of this prior to the update, imagine the challenge they have now. Particularly if there are problems associated with customers who have used Time Machine. Frankly, I'm NOT expecting a quick solution from them.

Worked for me as well. Thank you so much for posting.

All great ideas but

None of these have worked for me. I don't use nor have a MobileMe account. What I did notice was the "Events" on the pad are there however they contain very few of the photos that should be there (prior to the recent re-sort only a single event was there, of 10 or so selected). Within iTunes they are still duplicated and randomly sorted. Also the events as seen in iTunes when checked do not have the correct quantity shown on the right side of the pane.

What I did was check all events of the same name (about 10), some had 6 images, others had only 1 image. When sync'd the Pad shows two Events of the same name with a single image in one and 6 in another. Of the 10 or so Events that I checked only 2 showed on the Pad.

Was there possibly something else that might have prompted your solution?

or

If I got a MobileMe account and then removed it, would this likely be a solution? What happened when you restored MobileMe?

@Don,

Don't rush out to get MobileMe because of this. ;-)

I believe the other user had some relief from this Events bug when they removed the MobileMe published content simply because iPhoto resorts itself whenever an Event or Album is removed.

You should be able to get the same effect by following the numbered steps outlined earlier. I know you mentioned that they didn't work, but I suggest you give it another try and pay special attention to each step. Try leaving the Events in a different sort state than they currently are. For example, if they are currently sorted by title, then change it to date or vice versa.

Once you do that, be sure to change tabs again within iTunes and when it reloads the iPhoto event list it should be correct...at least for the moment. To be clear, this is not a fix, at best it's a temporary patch that will get you through one iOS sync.

Hope this helps...

Success.... I changed the "sort" from manual to "alphabetical" - connected iPhone and iPad and all events are now on both. Another question - why do they not appear in order on the iPad and iPhone? I know, I know, I'm getting picky....I'm just happy I have all the events - even though they are not in alphabetical order - they never have been... just seems like they would sync in order.
