Skype and vonage are obviously not phones, they are computer programs that work as a phone. It all goes back to the Turing machine idea, look it up.

If someone asked if they needed a Pilots License because they wanted to use Warbirds and that was flying a plane you would agree they were several slices short of a full loaf.

Apple chose not to build the telephony hardware into their tablet, but they have allowed programmers to write programs that make virtual phones, while they still restricted some text abilities.

It is commercial and they decided to take the risk it would not matter. Write to them, don't troll.

Seriously who give a rat's *** for the BS answer from Apple why they are restricting the Ipad 3gs owners to make phone calls over a cellular network.

You are the troll, sure keep defending Apple until you are effing blue in your face but it is a restriciton that Apple imposed on everyone with iPad 3g and there is all to it. Restriction.

The iPhone and iPad 3g both have a sim card but only one is permitted to make use cell network to make cell calls. How is this a good thing?

As for the war plane analogy... take a look at the parts the iPhone and iPad made out of - same freaging parts!!!

There is no difference and the new iPad is only better in every aspect of evey chip and readio comparing the older iPhones.

If you want an analogy It is more like a bowl of salad that that is requested to be eaten with a fork and if you show up with a spoon you are told that only people with forks can attend to dinner.

Well, you'd fail the Turing Test, and the way you're coming across it would not be the first test you will have failed. If you really think an iPad and an iPhone are identical inside apart from the SIM card you need to get on to these guys who take kit apart and post the results on the net, they have clearly missed this key fact.

Just in case we could further a logical argument, do any of the other makers of full-size tablets allow you to use the SIM from a normal cellphone to make phone calls via a phone network as if they were 'real' phones? If not, go and grizzle at them as well. If they do, go buy one and farewell.

iPad has a technical capacity to make phonecalls over the cell networks but it is crippled by Apple.

It does and Apple and their carrier partners have chosen to not implement the capability.

My car's eDestination system, and my home alarm system have the capability too. Yet I cannot make phone calls from them.

I think you're argument hast merit. But you need to send you're feedback to Apple:

I am so sick and tired of people who try to discourage you when you try to find an answer. In this post someone tries to find an answer about how to dial a bloody number on a device that uses 3g an 80 % of the answers he gets are about the fact that you shoudn,t use the device that way. Please if you do not have the answer to the original question just let others who have an answer to what it seems weird for you to just give a solution. Otherwise people who may want to make weird things like dialing on iPad would have to loose ours in browsing for the solution in endlesss pages.

And a good reason for making phone calls on iPad is this one:

In Europe there are many contries that offer prepaid services on SIM,s. If you want to recharge the sim one should dial a number and pass a code that should be made in the same way as on a normal phone. For this reason you should use it like a phone but there is no dialer for this.

Bravo! I could not agree with you more. These forums are becoming useless because of people rushing to do our thinking for us rather than help us with our inquiries. It would be as if you stopped to ask somebody for directions and person after person instead replied with why you shouldn't go to your destination. It's annoying and obnoxious. Either ANSWER the question to the best of your ability, or take a pass and put a muzzle on it.
