Playing HBO GO from iPad 2 on TV

I had hoped to be able to tether my iPad 2 to a TV via the Digital AV Adapter that has the HDMI adapter and watch HBO GO. But it appears that the app blocks my ability to do this (other apps like You Tube and Crackle work). Is there any other way to tether the iPad2 to my TV so that I can play HBO GO on my TV?

I have no clue what the others are talking about.

Open up the app and touch the gear thingy. Then touch Help followed by Technical Questions. Touch the third question down"Can I connect my mobile device to my TV and watch HBO GO?"

You will quickly see "No, currently an external connection from a mobile device to a TV is not supported."

Does that give you a hint?

pmoynahan, I do get it in letter box. I have a projector and it doesn't fill the whole screen, but I can easily switch modes on my projector to fit the screen (all 12 foot of it). Like you said, it does work but the quality of the picture is less than ideal considering we have HD sets. I have a Blue Ray DVD player that does all my other streaming (including Netflix) and wouldn't think of using the iPad to do this if my cable provider had as much content to offer as HBO GO.

While I would like to be able to watch hbo go on my tv, I understand why hbo does not allow you to hook it up to a television. The name of the app alone says it all. It is supposed to be used while on the go, by a subscriber of hbo for one person only. I also understand the frustration because I would like to watch episodes of my favorite hbo series on my tv and my cable provider only allows 4 or 5 episodes to choose from any given month. This is an issue with hbo not hbo go, all episodes should be available at any time using on demand on your tv. I imagine they do not allow this because my friend that is not an hbo subscriber, but does have an ipad would be able to use my account to watch hbo in high definition with all his friends without having to ever pay hbo for anything. Much like people do with a netflix account. I would not do this, but I understand why hbo would be apprehensive about allowing people that do not pay for hbo to view their outstanding programming

Like some of the rest of you, I could only get audio accompanied by the HBO GO logo - I switched the 12 ft, HDMI connecting cable that I use with my laptop from HDMI-3 which is located on the side of my flatscreen TV to HDMI-2 which is located on the back of the TV - and voila! - what it says in the technical support of HBO GO under 'Help' proves to be wrong - at least for now. Thanks for all your input!

Here's why I want to be able to stream to my TV:

TimeWarner Cable Offers HBO/HBO on Demand(some limited content) and several HBO Channels

TimeWarner Cable is not part of the partner program for HBO GO

I have a rental property in Bethel, ME with Direct TV

DirectTV is part of the partner program for HBO GO

I signed up wiht HBO Go through my DirectTV account

I want to be able to watch HBO GO at my house through Airplay/Mirroring on my TV. I can watch it on my Macbook and plug it into HDMI on my TV. But it's a pain.

I haven't tried the above idea with the video cable being plugged in before starting HBO GO. I know that doesn't work with the HDMI cable. But maybe it will with the AV Cable
