Installing XP on new iMac(2011)?

I just bought the new iMac and wanted to install my old XP on it. But when I run Boot Camp Assistant, it only provides support for Win7. Is it possible to use an older version of BCA to install XP again? And if so, where can I find a compatible previous version?

Thanks for any help!

Your Windows version is correct...

You need to do:

1) "Pilot on my computer" (option 2)

2) "choose from a list of drivers on my computer" (option 2)

3) "have disk" (button to thebottom-right)

Then you browse to the driver directory you downloaded (not the 12.3 that is for non mobile Graphics)

Do windows offer you a list of video drivers to choose from?

It should... Pick the most common "6700 series" (at the bottom of the list)...

So egaille, how exactly do I install these drivers on WinXP? Do I have to do it from the Mac side? I too have the 21.5 and am having problems with the lagging and headphone jack not being supported. I've downloaded your file for the 27" and have extracted each folder but dont know what to do from there.

hi,

My driver archive wasn't made for the 21,5" imac.

I don't know what is your graphics card. Surely different from the 27"

The install is from XP side, not OSX side of course...

To start helping you, i need to know the VEN_ DEV_ and SUBSYS_ informations:

in XP hardware panel, choose properties on the hardware you miss, go to "details" and give me the VEN_ DEV_ and SUBSYS_ informations.

This is something like (for example) : VEN_8086&DEV_27A2&SUBSYS_820710

I may be able to help if you provide these informations.

I think it is the bluetooth / wifi or something like that (maybe ethernet adapter).

I can help if you give me the VEN_ DEV_ and SUBSYS_ informations:

Hi egaille,

Took me a few tries to download the file, but I was able to eventually get it and run the setup: "Intel management engine" which I tested and it seems to have cleared up my last missing driver issue.

The only functionality I don't have is screen brightness control via the keyboard ! Beyond that I have fully functional Windows XP install on my i5 Macbook Pro.

Thanks so much for your assistance and providing the download link.

Hi egaille,

I'm just glad I found this thread and your postings. I had been trying for some time to get a complete set of drivers for Win XP on a i5.

Most drivers were extracted from the Snow Leopard install disc and your archive. I also ran the Apple bootcamp update program to 3.0.4. This gave me touchpad, lighted keyboard and most (but not all) function keys.

The graphics card on the 13" is an Intel HD 3000 and the driver can be found on Intel's site.

A google search gave me "LaptopVideo2go.com" which provides an extensive notebook driver archive.
