Installing XP on new iMac(2011)?

I was able after much trial and error to move my bootcamp from my 2007 iMac to the i5 27inch using Winclone. All sorts of issues arose during the process. But that is Windows for you. The only issue I have is that the sound is terrible, it's like listening through a tin can and I am at a loss as to how to fix.

ideas anyone?

I think you have only yourself, not Windows to blame if your XP is not working 100%. XP is not supported by Microsoft nor Apple. Why are you blaming Windows? XP is old, unsupported, insecure, and does not contain the drivers needed for new hardware. XP would not work on new Windows PCs so it is no wonder it will not work 100% on your computer. Sort of like, well exactly like the old Apple operating systems won't work on new Apple hardware.

Do yourself a favor and install a modern/current operating system on your newer Apple computer. It will work 100% and you will save yourself time and effort not to mention reducing your frustration level over this.

Now now BobTheFisherman... that is quite a seething attack. I like Windows XP and I am chuffed I got it to work, seeing that Apple Lion only supports W7, all I am asking is if anyone else here (that uses XP like I do) has same sound issues. So my system is 99% ok. And besides as always with windows it's going be driver this and driver that and despite the trials and tribulations, it's a hobby to putz with it.

So if you would be so kind and .......(let's leave it to the imagination shall we?).

P.S. I am not forking out $199 for W7 you can be sure of that. XP is fine.

No problem. Enjoy XP running at "99%". I was not attacking you just trying to point out that XP, IMO is long past being of any use. Especially considering lack of security support. There is nothing XP can do that can't be done with Windows 7.

BTW, Windows 7 OEM is $99 at many places as pointed out many times in this forum.

There is nothing wrong with trying to run Windows XP on a newer Macbook Pro. Some users may need to use an older legacy XP application that is not being supported by newer versions of Windows. In fact, I needed XP to run on my Macbook Pro for a job. I understand that XP is getting old in the tooth but some companies are still using it!

ok with that said, still wondering if anyone out there has had sound issues since installing XP on i(3,5,7) core machines and if they have solved it.

Just look to the replies, before on this thread. I have posted an archive with all suitable drivers for the Core i5 imac 27 inches.

If your sound is broken, just try re-install the sound card driver manually...

If you still have problems, please give me the VEN_ DEV_ and SUBSYS_ informations for your sound card. in Windows's XP hardware panel, choose properties on the broken hardware, go to "details" and gimme the VEN_ DEV_ and SUBSYS_ info. This is something like (for example) : VEN_8086&DEV_27A2&SUBSYS_820710

If you do so, I may be able to provide you with a better driver...

Actually it was your original post that enlightened me to make this work. I will however, re-read the posts.

No problem.

If you already downloaded my archive, just try installing manually again the sound driver.

If that doesn't work, gimme the VEN DEV SUBSYS informations of your sound card, from the hardware panel.

manual install :

1) right-click on the hardware that don't work well

2) select "update driver"

3) "not now" (radio button number 3)

4) install from a list (number 2)

5) "don't search, i'll choose the driver by myself" (last)

6) select disk (browse to the driver directory).

7) next and finish (you may get warnings).

8) reboot

umm I get doh! of the day award. Yes your technique worked. I just missed your audio directory of your collection. Works just fine now. 100% Win XP on i5 Core 27in MAC. Let it be noted that I used Winclone 3.0 to back up the XP Boot of old Mac and pushed it to a FAT32 partition created with DiskUtility (Doesn't make NTFS partitions anymore). However Winclone takes care of that issue on the fly when restoring the image.

Now when I booted up all He11 broke loose. Significantly different hardware and Win XP didn't like that and ordered me to re-register my copy of Windows over the internet. But couldn't do it without installing the drivers, couldn't get the drivers without the internet. A paradox, but if it were not for egaille I downloaded his driver files on the Mac side pushed them to an external FAT32 drive on firewire and one by one I was able to get the job done.

Suffice it to say, it's fun bending over backwards to make something work no matter what it takes. What benefits do I get out of it? None really, just that it can be done. That's all.
