For a number of years now, it has been a real pain having to login every time I come to these forums. Other forums I use have the usual 'keep me logged in' option. Why does it not work that way here? I thought that with the recent format change, that issue would have gone, but no.

Once you have logged in you stay logged in until you close Safari or other browser.
We have never been able to log in automatically on the Apple forums - for security reasons.

But it has been really weird here for at least the last couple of weeks. I keep getting logged out for no reason I can figure out. And I don't mean after 30 minutes.
For example (and this has been happening a LOT), I can login, see that I'm logged in at the top, and go to any given forum. I spend all of 10 seconds there and click a link to move back to the top of forums, or another location. All the sudden, I'm logged out!
And it doesn't follow this particular pattern. It happens randomly. Sometimes I get logged out immediately after logging in. Just move to my first choice and I'm out. Other times I can be jumping around the forums for 5 minutes, and bang!, I'm logged out again. It isn't even always possible to log back in when that happens. I have to shut down Safari and start over.
Actually, that's exactly what is happening to me.
It may depend on what web browser you use. Since the start of this new forum software, the forced logout has been changing over time. I do not now have a problem. Works just like the older forum software.
I am using TenFourFox 7.0b1. This is a port of Firefox 7.0b1. I suggest trying one or the other.
Any interaction with the server for the forum software will reset the logout clock.

Hmmm... I wouldn't like to think it was down to the browser as I really want to continue using Safari.
However, I'm trying out Chrome as we speak, so I'll see how that goes.
Safari should not have the problem. I use nothing else and have been logged in for the past 8 hours.
Well, I'm not so sure.
For the last 2 hours, Chrome has kept me logged in at all times, but Safari has required me to sign-in 3 times.

IMHO, I believe it's a combo of the new Safari (5.0 & up) and Late Snow Leopard and Lion. Something goes amuck then. It did it in 10.6.8 & Safari 5.0 for me.
I would like to add that wzzz first reported the try a different browser. I wanted to add this but my edit function timed out.

I have been logged in now for 14 hours in Chrome, but am having to login with Safari several times.
What do we think now?
'We' think that Bee may be on to something.
But we cannot be sure. A comment from a Host to me indicated puzzlement that this happens when using Safari rather than another browser, when for the majority of users the opposite is true.
This is being looked in to.

For debugging, try safari on a new id, one you just have created. Could be some preference.
Look at this Safari hack. It needs to be run from a bookmark. Worked for me about 6 weeks ago when I had problems staying logged in.

I tried on a new ID, and the exact same thing was happening, so I guess it's not a setting thing.
I'll have a look at your link and report back.
(Still no problem at all with Chrome.)

Well, I just wanted to report that there is still no progress on this. Safari has the problem, and Chrome doesn't. It's now been 5 months since the thread started and it's very disappointing that nothing has changed.
Yes, Klaus, I know it's being 'looked into', and, yes, I know it's is pointless posting this, but, hey ho.
Well, if want to use Safari, run a page reload program which will reload a page every so often & reset the time. It worked for me a few months ago.

And I'm still not having the problem using Safari and Lion. Unless I close the browser I stay logged in for days at a time.
