I too have been frustrated for the last week, not being able to connect to my home network with my new 3 week old iphone 4s. I bought a new 5th gen Airport Extreme and all i've gotten was "unable to connect".

I followed some of the tips here and set up a 5GHz network for the computers and ipad. I also reconfigured the remote relay Airport Express. Still I was only able to touch the network before being dropped.

This morning I set up the old 2nd gen Airport Extreme as a relay on the 2.4 network. It is ethernet wired to the new 5th gen Airport Extreme (Airport Expres is wireless). Bingo! I am now online reading about the iphone on Safari on my network.

I am not too tech savy, but it seems that my problem was the 5GHz net overwhelming the 2.4 Ghz network. According to my research the iphone can only connect to 2.4Ghz. So if you have a dual band airport or router this MAY be the problem. I have a case # with Apple and am under the 90 day support so I will still keep my appointment to have the iphone checked out and see what the tech guys say.

Hope this helps some of you.

Sandy

Greg's remedy below fixed the problem for me so far.

Click Settings->Wi-Fi then find your network on the "Choose a Network..." list and hit the little blue circle on the right side. On the page that appears, choose "Forget this Network." After this has been done, reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

Please let me know if this helps.

Dear friends, My problem was fixed when i did the following:

In settings, wifi, choose the network then click the blue circle. In DHCP enter the IP address ( within the range - for ex: 192.168.1.4). enter your default gateway also. Suddenly the wifi got life into Iphone and it works. i have not tried removing it to see if works. after hours of frustration, i am happy to see it working. will try other things and report. thanks for all ur help.

I believe I experienced a very specific situation with our home wi-fi (AT&T 2-WIRE variety) that resulted in a persistent "unable to connect to network" message for our wireless devices (iPhone 4, iPad 1, Kindle Fire), with the exception of our 2 Macbooks.

The network settings can be accessed via the internet at the http address listed on the sticker in the lower left side. Surfing that site led me to "MAC Filtering", which I do not recall setting or changing. In any event, our wireless devices were unexplainedly in the "blocked" list (along with a host of other MAC addresses that were not ours).

Highlighting our MAC addresses and clicking them over into the "allowed" column (you'll need the system access password, also on the sticker) rectified the situation.

I have had to same problem with my iPhone 4s and iPad 2. My son has a MacBook, iPod touch, PS3 and we have 2 PC laptops. All connect to wifi with no problems except for the 4s and iPad with the familiar 'unable to join network'. So I went into the router security settings and changed the password from a WPA-PSK setting to a standard WEP encryption and voila, the 4s and iPad now work. I know that WEP is not the most secure setting but it is the only solution to have worked. Hope this helps.

I have the same issue. Laptop PC works and Dell desktop works but not IPHONE 4 with wifi. I am using the password used to get into the Linksys router security settings and I keep receiving the error - "unable to join network". I tried airplane mode, I tried different channels - all 11 of them, different security modes, different channel widths...nothing. Very frustrating. I have the latest IOS on my IPhone - it works on my home network but not on Linksys router WRT120N network at relatives - I will be here for two weeks and so far, I have had 7 days of no wifi!

Seems like I remember one time having to setup two different SSID's with different channels, etc. but there are so many different setting combinations, who knows which one might work. I feel that I have tried many but no luck so far.

Communications issues are so so very hard to diagnose.

Does anyone know how to know what the MAC filter is for the IPHONE to add it to the list. Using Cable broadband for the modem.

This support community has helped me so many times when others could not.

I was having the same problem with WiFi, but just on one of the three iPhones in our household. I called Verizon support, went in to the Verizon store and then on to the Apple store. None of them were able to help me. It is frustrating that most times I have problems with many of the Apple products that I have, I find the answer only after googling it or working through it myself. Apple and Verizon techs are about as knowledgeable as any of us are. I am still working on my problem although it at least seems that my son can connect to WiFi to update his apps, but still can't do FaceTime.

Good Luck, everyone.

I was having the same problem, and no Gregg, it is not the router. I found this simple fix on another forum and it worked for me. Go to settings, then general, then reset, and choose reset network. This will take a few moments, when it is done go back to wifi and choose your netwrok. The forum did state that you may need to change the password on your router for this to work, but I did it with out changing the password and it worked. Good luck on this. Now, Gregg I agree that those seeking help here should not be rude to those offering help. But wouldn't you agree that the time and energy expended trying to resolve these technical glitches, compounded by the fact that we pay our monthly bills expecting good service, are only further exaspirated by one dimensional advice that does not help, but causes further stress and possible unecessary expense. It did not take long to further research this and I recommend any using forums for advice to look elswhere when they are unresolved here.. If those responding are volunteers, then we are all just doing what we can; but if those answering are paid by Apple, I would expect them to do their hoemwork. Food for thought.

Hi there GregTB. I just wanted to say a quick thank you for your info. It may not have helped some of the others on here, but it sure helped me!!! I have been fighting with my iphone/wifi connection all day and with just one click of 'forget your network' I went back in and connected with my password and VOILA.

again, thanks a bunch!

Here is what I did to resolve the issue.

1. Change the wireless network password on your router
2. Reset the network settings in the iPhone
(Settings --> General --> Reset --> Reset Network Settings)

3. After the device restarts, go to the Wi-Fi menu
4. Select your network, and enter the new password
5. (Optional) Revert the wireless password back to its original value
6. Reconnect the iPhone

This sorted out the problem for me :-)

I used to have an original iPhone, used WiFi for everything, Mobile Mouse, VLC Streamer/Remote, VMCmote, TIOD, etc. One night I opened my Mobile Mouse app and was just working on my Puter from about 8 feet away. Then I LOST connectivity abruptly.

I tried everything, including a lot of the methods listed here - I reset my network settings about 25 times, the only thing I did not do was do a full reset- Which I could not do at the time.

So, this is a stumper, and I think it is possible if the WiFi absolutely WILL not connect- That the Hardware must be broken. Because this is a common problem I have with Laptops I repair - Several Laptops I worked on, lost their WiFi. I tried buying a new WiFi card and snapping it in, but it still did not work - So Something else was broken, this happened on about three semi-expensive brand name laptops!

Now my Iphone, not only did it not connect, it refused to show ANY of the local networks, there are about 6 Wireless routers that always show up in my list at any given time. AT NO TIME was I ever able to connect to ANY of them, because my phone simply was NOT showing any Wifi Networks! Now my 2G still worked, but that was all I could get. It was as-if I was stuck in "Airplane Mode" - But my Phone and 2G still worked.

I never did figure out whathad happened to it, about a week after it started doing that, my cat vomited on it and wrecked it for good.

So I'm sure that most of the time, these fixes posted here will work, but if anyone has experienced a 100% lack of any Wifi networks being listed, and has found a fix, I'd like to hear it, just send me a PM.
