I'm planning to get an ipad 2. But I want to make sure that I can view my online class offline. It uses microsoft silverlight plug-in. Has somebody done this before? Thanks.

Deggie, just read what you are saying and decide for yourself if that's really supporting an end user. If you really feel that's good for an end user, then I have no idea why this site exists.
Perhaps you should read the Terms of Use rather than simply assuming that you know what's in them.
Submissions
Stay on topic. Apple Support Communities is here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
As an admin who works in K12 Ed, we are getting flooded with IPADs, both our Student and Finance Vendors require flash and / or Silverlight. It is very disheartening to see the "wizzin" match between the two camps.
It is not something you go to hundreds of IPAD users and tell them, well, you can do X, but you can't do Y and because..
Were my customers dependent on varying things because of programming you better well find ways to "make it work".
As slight ding on the Board TOS, for a second.
Over the 20+ years I've been doing IT support both on the server and desktop level, I will say Apple has NEVER played well with others. I will inform clients if they intend to get a tablet and want to use it with the Student or Finance Application they should wait until the microsoft, apple, adobe brats quit fighting like 3rd graders on the playground.Pardon my being upset about this but this ongoing political battle of will has to end. The development of applications with Silverlight and Flash is something that is very deeply embedded throughout.. We have full time developers working feverishly on our student systems to use HTML5. Fact is to make it work the cost to migrate from flash or silverlight makes the total cost of ownership of IPads much higher then they already are.
Just don't fool yourself into believing that your action will change anything.
I am curious, however. Why don't you dump on your vendors for their failure (refusal?) to support the most popular mobile devices in the world?
Philly no offense, but why don't devices vendors deal with it. Seems the real problem isn't with the thousands of hours of development that went into millions of websites, there is a single point of failure. The device.
Are you sure the Surface will have Silverlight? Microsoft is fading out support for it and switching to HTML 5 (as is Adobe themselves in the mobile arena.)
The answer is quite simple. Ever since Apple introduced a series of products that do NOT support Flash, their sales AND PROFITS have been going through the roof. Perhaps your cherished vendors could learn from that.
"Thousands of hours?" That's chump change compared with the iPad development.
I've never heard such non-sense. Preventing Flash support and preventing Silverlight support in iOS has NOTHING to do with "sales and profits" -- is QuickTime blocked?? NO it isn't, yet it does the same as Flash yet it's global usage is far far far far less than Flash. And I'm sure you are aware that Flash and Silverlight work just fine under OSX ... soooooo, your "sales and profits" logic goes out the window.
Your responses are NOT helping anyone, other than providing false information to people to try to make it look like Apple aren't responsible.
Apple's preventing Flash and Silverlight is all about business leverage, aka more money. Nothing to do with providing end users and customers what they want -- if they cared about customers, then RCM1958 would NOT be posting his questions/complaints.
And please stop with quoting "Terms of Use" every time you don't have a valid response or can't think of how to make Apple look good -- you aren't helping anyone, you are just waving the Apple flag all the time. RCM1958 has a valid issue as do many others that have complained about this very issue.
And yes, Apple do whatever they want and listen to no one ... and that's exactly what's going to be their ultimate challange because it leaves the door wide open for other companies to please their customers, to give them want they want rather than telling them to go take a hike.
As far as iPad development, it's microscopic compared to desktop, laptops, and enterprise level computing ... it's a curious device and but iPhones and iPads combine are still only 170 Million, compared to Microsoft based desktops running Windows OS flavors at 1 Billion+ now ... and OS numbers are still a staggering 84% Windows with iPad at 3%. So good luck trying to tell people they need to change for the Apple's benefit -- just not helpful in any way shape or form.
It's good that you got that off your chest even though it accomplished nothing, nada, zilch, bupkus. The iPad still does not support Flash and never will.

Pretty sure that is the point that Philly was making.
Not supporting Flash is having no impact on sales/profits.
Thank you.
I find it shocking that my words need an explanation.
Neither of you have the data to support that sales/profits have not been impacted from the lack of Flash and Silverlight support? Making an assumption that profits are good so therefore support for Flash isn't important is just a bad assumption.
Yes Apple are making money, but they could be making A LOT more money if they support Flash/Silverlight. I know many many many folks that avoid iOS devices (iPhone/iPad) because of the lack of web site support including flash and silverlight. Apple should view this as lost potential revenue rather than "too bad" ... this is where ego/arrogance gets in the way of a proper/logical business decisions.
And for Philly_Phan to say iPad will never support Flash or Silverlight (isnt' this speculation??) is just more bad and unsupported information, sorta like saying Apple would never use Intel CPUs ... geee. Times change and so will Apple if it wants to remain viable ... it has to.
As far as stating ones issues on this forum, the subject matter is very valid!
The smart and more accurate response would be:
"Apple does not support those technologies on iOS devices at this time, but does support them on OSX devices if that is an option for you."
If asked why, the response is:
"It's a business strategy to help continue the growth and development of our iOS devices".
This would be far more helpful and accurate than current responses.
You're obviously new around here. The regulars know quite well that I personally would be happier if the iPad did, in fact, support Flash. However, it does not and it never will and that gives me three options:
1) I could sell my iPad and replace it with a competing product that does support Flash as others have done. I did not do that because I feel that the iPad benefits substantially outweigh the minor disadvantages.
2) I could moan and whine about Apple as you are doing. I did not do that because it's not my style.
3) I could keep my iPad and enjoy it. That's the route that I have chosen.
Cheers!

Apple pretty much selling them as fast as they make them so how could they sell more?
Many years ago, I had a car that I disliked intensely. I sold it. End of problem.
I just don't understand these people.

That's ok Philly, I really don't understand you or your logic at all. Frankly, you seem like a zealous fan boy and not someone who's really interested in providing accurate information. You make many assumptions "you're obviously new around here" (I can't have more than one ID?) that you can't validate and you also speculate "never will".
If you wanna help, then help, but waving the Apple flag isn't helping Apple users, it's only helping Apple.
Chris, Apple sales of iPads are good, but far from "sold out" -- got to Best Buy or Apple Store or retail outlet and ask if they have them in stock, you'll not be turned away, plenty to go around -- far from "selling them as fast as they make them". But again, that's not really relevant to the "potential" market -- people who would buy the iPad if it had Flash support.
