Same issue whereby iTunes would run fine on first start following a PC reboot but would not restart again until PC was rebooted. I am running the latest version, 10.5.3.3 and the problem is definately with APSDaemon.exe.
If APSDaemon.exe is terminated each time then iTunes restarts ok.
I then tried to signout of the Store but iTunes hung until I terminated APSDaemon.exe and then iTunes jumped back into life and automatically restarted APSDaemon.exe and then signed me out ok.
So for me, simply NOT signing into the Store has cured the problem as APSDaemon.exe is not started by iTunes anymore.
Apple need to come up with a permanent fix I think.

You know I've gone into my account here and changed my email settings to not recieve ANY emails. And yet every time some a****** responds to this post, I have to get a f****** email. Take me off the god d*** mailing list and quit harassing me apple.
I"m running Vista Home Primium on a 32 bit PC from 2008. I recently started having the same problem. I incidentally discovered that restarting allowed me to open iTunes again. However, your suggestion about Apsdaemon.exe has been a great help and is, at least, a work around for the problem.
I'm having SO MANY problems with iTunes on this PC. But only on this one. Fresh install on another computer, such as my laptop, works fine. I've uninstalled, cleaned the registry and re-installed on this PC and still have all the same weird problems with iTunes.
re.APSDaemon.exe - I renamed it via Task Manager as you suggested and now iTunes is working fine.
i renamed it task, no problem itunes opens and shuts, how bizarre hey.
i have AVG 2011 full protection and windows 7 premium.
Yeah, so I just encountered this frustrating problem.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit. APSdaemon.exe is not in my task manager either. I tried running it as administrator, nothing. I tried closing all apple activities in the task manager, nothing.
What the ****.
did you end the apple and itunes processes as well?
This problem also took over my Windows Media Player. It refused to open, and it would give some BS error message when it did.
I ended up deleting Quicktime. I just upgraded Quicktime and iTunes a few days ago, and all these problems started occuring after I was forced to use Quicktime once to watch a video protected by stupid DRM that I bought from iTunes a long time ago.
Since I deleted Quicktime, and restarting, both my iTunes and WMP seem to work fine.
I have the same problems atm.
I can't start iTunes ...
I can't find APSDaemon.exe in my task manager...
I've given myself all the priv that was needed .. still no luck!! uninstalled everything according to apple's pages .. reinstalled .. nothing ... I've done everything according to what's been written here in this topic ... without any progress!!
Now .. the only thing I can do to make this work, is actually open task manager .. create a new task with admin rights, and start iTunes through task manager... now it starts .. and I can sync, check apps and all!!!
This is very frustrating, as it's a clumpsy way to start iTunes.... hopefully someone can come up with the solution how to fix this problem .. as it doesn't seem like Apple is giving out something about it ... as of yet anyway...
edit:
when I start iTunes this way, I can find the APSDaemon.exe!!!!!
when I close iTunes, it goes away, but still can not reopen iTunes, without going through task manager again, and run it with admin rights from there....
/facepalm /sigh!!

I too had the same problem where Itunes would only act like it was going to open with the busy icon for a second and nothing would launch. I uninstalled it.... reinstalled it....turned off startup programes....still nothing. Created a new user account.....wouldnt work on that one. I changed my security on the icon to full control....it still wouldnt open.
I then downloaded quicktime, restarted and itunes finally launched. Whoo Hoo! Thanks all!
I had the same issue for a long time and what solves this was simply remove completly the QuickTimeViewer from my machine.
Thats it
