ipad app update asks for wrong apple ID

When I check settings, my correct apple ID shows. But when I do an "update apps", the wrong apple ID shows up, with only the password box available for input. What to do?

I was having password problems when updating apps and some other issues because of two accounts. I had different passwords for different apps, because they were purchased using different accounts. I discovered this by doing a "Get Info" on the two apps I was having problems with.

You can find these apps in your App Library. Launch iTunes and click on Apps under the Library in the left column. Click on an app and do a "Get Info" to determine what account was used with each app. That process showed me that two different apps were purchased with two different accounts. (I have no idea how I got two accounts.) In addition I had used multiple passwords because of all of this and had to keep resetting. That got crazy because you cannot reuse a previous password.

I solved the problem by logging into each account and resetting them using the same password. Now it does not matter which account I use or what account pops up, because they have the same password.

As long as I don't forget that, all will be OK.

Those steps will show you the ID your iPad is using for a purchase, but it does not show you the ID that is being requested by the APP that is being updated. All my devices show the same mac.com ID in the settings. If you have two IDs in play from the store, you will need to determine that in the way I outlined. Apple was unable to explain why I had two different IDs. The second ID may have been created when I purchased a new Apple product or when I moved from MobileMe to iCloud.

I helped my brother to set up his new ipad on my PC. For the record, I created a new account for him. He has never entered any of his info on MY iPad, yet I get requests to enter HIS password for some app updates on my iPad - truly annoying. I was the person who downloaded the apps after he had returned back home, so there's no way his info should be the default.

So now I either delete the apps if they were free and reinstall them, or I update via iTunes, which works.

I was having the same problem the other day - the App Store kept prompting me to enter a password for my boyfriend's apple ID every time I attempted to download updates. I use his computer/iTunes to back-up and charge my iPad and I guess it stored his account info the last time I had it plugged in (??)

To fix:

-go into Settings,

-click on your Apple ID,

-select "Sign Out" from the pop-up menu (even if it shows that your correct apple ID is currently signed in, which was the case for me)

-go back to the App Store

-try downloading a new app (you can delete later) or click the Update button for existing apps

-a blank username/password form will pop-up, allowing you to enter the correct apple ID info

I hope this helps - Worked for me and haven't had any other issues since!

Just talked to Apple support. The software is designed to do exactly what it's doing. So, in Microsoft language, it's a feature, not a bug.

So, to get around it, I suppose one must delete all apps and re-install them. Option 2 might be to sign out of your iTunes account (in iTunes), sign into the other iTunes account, plug in the device, back it up, and then restore it again. I tried doing this half-way (restoring a backup I had previously made while being logged into the wrong account) which did not work.

Still scratching my head on this one.

I had a similar situation to your problem. My situation is that I received a MacBook Pro from my boss second hand. I was constantly getting the update notification for iPhoto but it wanted his AppStore credentials. I wasn't about to ask him for access to his account. I also am ok with having to purchase the app again in order to have it registered to my Apple ID rather than his. So simple solution, I deleted the app from Applications and now it is prompting me to purhcase it for $14.99 and I no longer have the notification in the AppStore. I understand how frustrating it must be to have multiple apps which you have legitimately paid for and not be able to update them and I am truly sorry for your situation. My reply may not be a solution for your example, but hopefully it may be a solution for others. Good day.
