ipad app update asks for wrong apple ID
When I check settings, my correct apple ID shows. But when I do an "update apps", the wrong apple ID shows up, with only the password box available for input. What to do?
iPad 2, iOS 4.3.2

I'm having exactly then same ridiculous problem. It is a pain in the a** I've spent a fortune on my I-devices and still a big amount on apps which I now have to purchase again? This is technically a rip off and if not being solved soon it's not far away from a criminal method of making even more money out of nothing but thin air. No offense, but being seriously stuck on that is getting me mad...
Hello? I just want to update my apps. That's it already!
Hello, I tried EVERYTHING still to no avail. After 3 months of emailing back and forth with iTunes Support I finally emailed with who appeared to be a customer service supervisior and he refunded my iTunes purchase. The amount jusst reapeared on my credit card statement. I was only reimubursed for one out of 5 apps. I just cut my losses and gave up. iTunes support is a disgrace.
I still have NO idea how to get through to an actual PERSON on iTunes support. I used the express lane and every other avenue to speak to a live person in that department. The customer service representative form Apple Care even emailed me a link that took me to an electronic form to fill out to request a phone call. NOTHING! After repeated requests to actually SPEAK to someone, nothing. As I said in a previous response to another member, i just cut my losses and gave up after only being reimbursed for one app (it was the most expensive at $19.99). Consumers pay a premium to own Apple products. My husband and 3 girls all have macs and multiple iOS devices. We have purchased Apple Care for all of these devices. Apple Care has always provided wonderful technical support, however iTunes support remains ineffective. Athough I LOVE discussion boards and learning from my fellow Apple users, I should not have to use them as my primary support when I have purchased my product from APPLE. It really is disgraceful. I avoid purchasing anything that I do not have to from iTunes. Where as prior to this issue I pretty much purchased all of my content from iTunes, I have since switched to Spotify and Amazon for my music content, and Amazon for my reading and literary content. I try to only purchase free Apps from the iTunes store (when I can). I do thank everyon on this thread for their input and please know that I tried all of the suggestions.
When you find that the app that you want to update has the wrong update has a different id, the way I solved the problem was to delete the app from the iPad. Then I reinstalled the app using the primary apple id to install.
I finally got a fix on this. I reset the password associated with my old ID and having done that then tried to update the apps using the new reset password on my iPhone and iPad. For some reason it now works (it didn't before so I don't know what's changed in the meantime!). A huge relief to get all my apps updated from my old ID on both iPhone and iPad, as there were a lot.
I would like to add that I raised a support call with Apple on this matter and it was never responded to. They even followed up with a survey to check my issue had been acted on and resolved, to which I said it certainly hadn't. Still no-one got in touch. My experience of Apple support is increaasingly one of disappointment and I'm just glad I was able to resolve my own issue.
So I have 2 apple id;
have my own reason to have them.
in one of them i have my credit card attached (i will name it as A) and in the other acc. not ( this will be B)
For example i bought with my A account angry birds hd for my ipad 2
2 days ago angry birds had an update and even i was log in with A id when i click update B id show up and asking for pass. many time log in and logout power switch off etc... didnt work it same with my iphone too.
Here im log in with my A id
But once i want make update an app that i buyed with my A id
it shows B id and asks password. So its not related to id B
So i deleted angry birds and reinstall it didnt charge me for another 4.99$ but all my saves are gone and with every update i will lose everythime my saves when i have to reinstall it
today i restored my iphone maybe it will help but it didnt.
and the problem still continues.
so this means this related to IOS we using.
hope in next patch they fixing it.
cus till this moment i cloudnt find any real solution
I think you will find the problem is all to do with icloud. My guess is that there was confusion when setting apple your apple email account. I know I got confused by this.
If you have started to purchase apps with two separate ID's then you are going to have problems.
You have to update using the ID that you purchased App with. If it is different you have to delete the app. Then reinstall using the ID that you use in itunes. I do not know if Apple will sort the problem of purchasing whith 2 different ID's but it worth emailing them and explaining what is happening.
I'm using 2 apple ids because apple doesnt allow me to reach for some app.s in my region.
For example Vevo app. is not avaible in my region.
i want it for watching music video clips.
So for does kind situation i have my second id.
When im log in with my main id to update an app (like angry birds) that i buyed with my main id
it still shows my second id as log in.
When i log in with my main id and i purchase a new app there is no problem it buys it with main id , but second after i want update one of my app that i purchased with main too on the screen it shows my second id even though i log in with my main.I dont know if i could explain my self with this better..
like i said even after i restored my iphone right after there was an update to make and i was log in with my main id but it showed up my second id
I also use two accounts on my ipad 2 (5.0.1) and was unable to update apps on my ipad, because one account seemed to be "stucked".
After about six month of experiment, it seems I have accidentaly found a solution.
Here is what I did:
Let's say I use account A and account B. I use both and sync both to my laptop. I have tried everything, removed all of the purchased apps of account B, even did complete restore and erased all settings. None of them worked.
Yesterday I decided to completely remove everything that "connects" account B to my ipad. Removed all the apps of account B and than synced with my laptop. Still not good. After syncing to may laptop I decided to deauthorize my account B and my laptop. In Itunes, I went to the Store menu and hit "Deauthorize this computer..." I typed in my account B apple id and password (the one that got "stuck" and caused all the problem). After that I synced my ipad again. It asked me if I really wanted to do that, because this way it will remove all of my apps from the Ipad. (I found that kind of strange, because there were no more apps on the ipad from account B) I said go ahead, got nothing to lose. So I synced, and it did remove all of the apps. Next step without unpluging from computer, I have synced again, and it synced back all of the apps of account A without even selecting them. It seems to me that Itunes somehow "thought" that the apps of Account A are actually belong to account B and after deauthorization everything went back to normal. One wonderful thing is that after that I could authorize account B on my laptop again and now I use both accounts on my ipad2 again without any problem. But please note that this procedure works as if you would have erased all of your apps from the ipad, (you actually did), so you will definitely lose all your game scores, setting, files saved in other programs. I could live with that.
It seems to be working since yesterday. I hope it stays that way too.
To sum it up:
1. deauthorize computer and the account B
2. sync,
3. It will erase the apps from the ipad and with the next sync the apps will be back.
4. you can authorize again.
That's it!
Do i just delete app.s connect to B or both A and B?
I only deleted apps connected to B. (probably you don't even need to delete anything, because when you deauthorize account B, it will delete the apps anyway). After deauthorizing account B and the laptop and than you sync your ipad again, it will tell you that you have no authorization to use the programs so it will remove them from the ipad. Than it removed all of my apps. Synced again and copied all of account A apps back, because it was still authorized.
(at least that's what happened with mine)
Hello,
I had the same problem, the wrong ID showing up when updating, although I was signed in with my ID. I solved this by deleting "New York Times" app from the Newsstand, which was downloaded with that wrong ID (the one always appearing). This problem might be related to Newsstand automatically downloading new issues.
So, you might try removing the publications from Newsstand and see if that solves the problem.
Best regards
I had the same frustrating problem. The fix was easy.. Go to this address to change your apple ID password: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE36 After changing password, Log out on itunes, then log back in with new password, then sync device. Small pain in the ***, but it worked.
