FIXED IT. HAD TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES AFTER UPDATES TO MY APPLE ID. 😎

At least for myself. OK- I was having the same problem. Tried to rent a movie, got the "invalid address thing." 😕

After reading another discussion ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3054098 ) post by yaledoc72, I did the following:

I found out my plus 4 zip code, and logged in to manage my Apple ID. There I deleted an old invalid shipping address and then updated my Billing address to spell out "Street," check all spelling, check all numbers and add the plus 4 zip.

I also made sure my primary shipping address was filled in exactly the same as the billing address. I left a couple of alternate shipping addresses in place.

When I went back to iTunes and tried again, it still told me I needed a valid address and to go to billing info -- which I did, and updated -- again.😠

Not sure about what happened next because I was drafting a (somewhat testy) email to Apple Support but then I noticed the iTunes Store window had updated and my movie was downloading. Still is.

Looks like you just have to make sure your addresses are good and update to the plus 4 zip, and then give it a while to update.🙂

So - in my case at least - I think I know the problem. Post office new mailing address. A new street and home are entered in the USPS right away and it takes time for various private parties to update their database. There are the parties used by credit card firms and others to confirm an address. I think that is my specific problem, because I checked with one of these firms and it shows that my address is NOT receiving mail (which it is). The post office can not do anything, I don't know who Apple is using as the address verification firm - so I can't do anything there, either.

So I think I am blocked.

My guess is that Apple recently changed it's verification firm which has caused all these problems all of a sudden. I was able to purchase on iTunes earlier this month no problem. My guess is that as long as my address matched my credit card, the earlier verification firm approved the transaction - the new firm is also checking the mailing address as well.

Just adding another vote of frustration. I went to see a Genius yesterday and no one in the store knew anything about this issue. They told me to send an email to iTunes support, which I did. They missed their 24-hour response window by about 2 hours, but finally sent this response:

"I am so sorry for the trouble that you are experiencing with your credit card. I have sent your information off to a specialized team that will be investigating your account to see where this trouble is stemming from. As soon as they find anything out, they will be back in touch with me directly, and I will let you know what they find right away."

I've double checked the address, added text onto every line, etc. etc. and nothing has worked. So I guess I have to continue to wait for iTunes to respond. Really amazing they haven't posted an answer to this forum. They are losing money with every hour that passes without a solution. By the time they fix it I'll have forgotten what I intended to buy!
