I had the same invalid address problem. Our mailing address had until about a year ago been for the next town over, not the town we live in. A year ago, we received instruction from the United States Post Office to use our own town now, their routes had changed. Apparently, Apple thinks we should still live in the next town over and doesn't recognize my correct address. I couldn't change the info because it wouldn't match the billing address for my credit card on file and iTunes would reject it. I contacted Apple and they were completely unhelpful. They simply gave me the information I already knew, and then told me to contact the USPS. Really? Because their information is outdated or incorrect I have to try to get the United States Postal Service to update their records so iTunes will be happy? I can just see the miles of red tape. I ended up switching charges to a Paypal account after several days and several less than helpful e-mails. I find it strange that iTunes seems less interested in getting accurate information than in getting what matches some arbitrary database.

Here is my best guess. For me, it just started slightly after May 7th. Prior to that - no problem. Same credit card, same address, nothing changed on my end.

Something changed on iTunes end to affect us.

I think that they have enlisted a mailing address verification firm to ensure there is less fraud - of some internal reason. When they pulled the trigger, some of us - for whatever reason - were tagged as unverifiable.

It's not the credit card. If they were using just that, the card companies are OK with our addresses. So they have added another layer - and that layer is the mailing address.

IF - they would explain what has changed, and what they are doing - it would help us to make data sync. WE cannot repair the problem if we don't know what they are doing.

Anyway - that is my take on the matter, and I currently have no idea how to be able to update my apps, much less buy anything...

It is obviously a code change on their end. I have gotten many scripts from support that tell me I need to reinstall iTunes, add my accounts back, etc... Finally they came out and said my address is not valid according to the US Post Office. So I guess I have to move now! Apple's email support (ala Infosys) is a complete joke. I have never had such bad customer service from Apple before. This reminds me of Dell and HP support from the third world. They are taking no ownership of the problem, they don't care about the problem, the customer (I) is wrong, and they speak down to you in email (if that is possible).

I will not be purchasing anything from iTunes ever again that I can get elsewhere. So no music, TV shows or movies. Unfortunately I am stuck getting apps from this store for my iPhone. But, I sure as **** won't ever buy Mac apps from the Apple Mac App store now. I trusted Apple here. That was a big mistake. Customer service is everying in the Western business world. If Apple is too cheap to provide the support we expect from their online businesses, then there is a serious problem in the company. I even called Apple and all they could do was send an "email" to iTunes Store support (ala Infosys again). If I wanted Dell support (or lack of it) I would have bought a Dell!

Also they keep deleting posts. Let's see how long this one stays up.

Same problem here since May 11. Called Apple Care and went to Genius Bar on May 13 (they had no idea). After reviewing posts here I switched address number to first line on iphone and street to second and also went back to my postal zip which is what I had on acct before problem started (I live in one city and have zip for another). I made sure everything else exactly same....and after way too many hours spent on this, it works again. FYI- I use GC and not CC. Not really sure what made difference....

Im having the same problem here. In our case the zip code for our town was changed years ago and the bank hasnt updated the info. We had this issue about 6 months ago but it cleared up on its own. I have called apple ( I'll never get that hour of my life back) they act as though they have no clue what we are talking about. Ill deal with the bank to see if they can change my address to make it match the new zip code.

Here is what I did after going to the genius bar. My address is not in the database, so we removed the credit card and made my address Apples address in Cupertino! iTunes took it. Then I bought a gift card so I am up and running. The folks at the genius bar were amazed. They also reported it. To find out about your address in the databases - go to www.dyne.com/free/address verification.aspx. No perion at the end - the iPad did that.

Good luck

On a previous post I gave the address of a database that will let you know if your mail address is OK or if there is something you need to change - I gave the address - but there was a typo in it - here is the web site you can go to to check to see if there is an issue with your mailing address.

Remember, the post office sets the addresses, and these databases pick them up form them - and often the mistake is in the data transfer...

www.cdyne.com/free/addressverification.aspx

I typed the previous post on my iPad - and as you know - it changes things as you type...

Hope this helps

So it is our (the customers) problem then? Not Apples? Really? I am just amazed at the thought process that these people have. Such arrogance. You want us to change our address to match your software? You changed the code a few weeks back, we did not change our addresses. My address is valid and it is exactly the same as what I have with all of my financial institutions. It works just fine with every other online business. Just not with Apple. This is not my problem.

I am the customer. How long I remain a customer is up to you Apple.

Thanks, rcnoble. The link you gave is very useful.

I've decided to just accept that this verification process is a permanent fixture and I will always need to make sure my address is correct, and not just with Apple.

Just so everybody knows, I had this same problem before with other online vendors and it happened everywhere I tried to use one particular Visa card. For a couple of months I just used a different card online, but when I finally tracked it down, the credit union issuing this one card had made an earier address change in their records, but hadn't correctly made the change with the main Visa database. So the verification always failed.

Bottom line: It's the world we live in. As annoying glitches go, this one is right up there, but it probably started as an attempt to improve security.

I agree -- Apple could have handled this a lot better.
