"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

Hoppelputzi, after they'll give you new iPad and you'll try to activate you probably will get same message.

If you're going to do so, take iBook or some notebook with yourself (with iTunes) and try to activate iPad just in office.

Otherwise you can have absolutelly same problem when you'll do activation/sync with iTunes at your home with new iPad
