"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

Yes, so I know if it was not my fault we have to wait to see if it really goes back to normal, as one of the guys put up there on the topic, if Apple's server problem, they had already solved. My hope is that it really is that server and will soon return to normality. Try searching for something else out there that I am searching around to see if somebody else besides us also with this same problem. Thanks!
