"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

okay for those who want to give it a shot..

turn off ur iDevice and open iTunes

hold down the home button and plug into usb cable

iTunes must recognize device in recovery mode.

Click restore.

Should exract software.. Restore............

Dialog box should appear saying it was restored and device will restart and reappear in iTunes.

Hopefully it should activated and then u can set up as new device or re-sync a backup

Hope this helps!

WORKING NOW!

Ipod Touch 3g was bricked on firmware 4.3.3 using itunes 10.2 x64. All I had to do was downgrade to itunes 10.1 and the error about there being a problem with device did not appear. Restored from backup absolutely ok.

NB,

You may have to delete itunes' saved firmwares. These can be found at %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates for windows users. Delete everything in that folder and click restore in itunes 10.1
