"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

Just got the same message in iTunes. I called Applecare yesterday cause I have been having issues using the app store on my iPad 1. It was constantly crashing when I hit the "show more" button in the top apps section. The AC rep suggested I do a full restore on my iPad, BUT - told me to wait until today to do it because Apple was doing maintenance in the app store and iTunes - and he said I would have issues with activation. Fast forward to today - waited until 7pm to do the restore, and it erased wonderfully... but, now it won't activate. I suggest everyone be patient and try again later. I'm sure it has something to do with iTunes, and is not device related.

I just called Apple about my issue - we tried to put the iPad into recovery mode and got it almost to the point of restoral, then hit the error message again. Bad news for me.. but I am thankfully still in my warranty period. Hitting the Apple Store tomorrow and will most likely just get a new one.


Put yours into recovery mode and try again...

Hold power and home button until screen goes blank.

Then hold the home button down

While holding the home button down, plug your iPad into iTunes. Let go of home button.

iTunes will prompt you that it detects an iPad in recovery mode.. follow the prompts and go thru the process.


It didn't work for me, but it might for you... and this will save you the 30 minutes I just spent on hold with Apple. 🙂 good luck!

I done that and it still shows "There is a problem with your divice" so the app store is not down? i get all the way through the restore and it tells me it done it sucsfully and it shows the error i think i just need to activeate it it shows acsessing itunes store and stops about half way and shows the error i think its apple

I really hope so. I would make an appointment as a back up though... just in case. Mine was running great, besides crashing in the app store.. I'm regretting that I tried it now. 😟

The Applecare folks made no mention of the app store or iTunes activation servers having issues. Maybe try calling them. I'd rather shoot myself in the leg than call back and sit on hold for another 30 minutes lol
