MacKeeper is horrible malware that causes a "virus warning" to pop up in your browser that freezes the functionality of your computer until you force quit the browser several times. I'm STILL trying to get rid of it! You are misrepresenting your product and I can't imagine what you are gaining from hijacking peoples computers like this other than an evil twisted chuckle. Why don't you show some good will towards the "legitimacy" of your product and tell us how to stop this annoying malicious virus addware that all of sudden started popping up AFTER we did the free (except for the major headache of this software) download? I have deleted it from my system (which was a headache as well) and now I'm getting this popup which I NEVER got before this bogus mackeeper program.
Well, here's a CNET article that says it's OK:
http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-protect-your-mac-from-recent-malware/
Are they being paid to say it?
Are you guys really impartial, or just ticked off by their advertising?
Neither CNET nor its parent company are reputable organisations.
CNET owns and operates a download hosting site that introduces adware to what would otherwise be legitimate software. CNET has continued to ignore pleas for them to cease. This has continued for years.
They accept advertising from companies whose products are capable of doing nothing but cause misery to Mac users, and MacKeeper is only one example of several notorious others. This site is littered with such reports.
Draw your own conclusions.
It's not just their advertising, most of the users commenting here have had MacKeeper harm their system. Even if it didn't harm the OS, you simply don't need it and it would just be taking up space.
Hey, it's your Mac, you're welcome to install MacKeeper and hope it does no harm.
Agree completely with John Galt regarding CNET.
Further, with all their attempts to spam, popup, fake review, etc. to promote sales of their junkware, you might ask yourself:
Why has MacKeeper not been accepted by Apple for sale in the App Store?
You right, i ask for myself the same think, but sometimes the Apple dont accept some app and some time dont have a reason or i dont fin find why dont accept.
Why Apple dont accept the VLC, Adobe products(Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) or Skype?
I like to get all my products in Apple Store, but the more basic and more usefull i dont find there...
Thanks for the quick responses, folks, just doing my due diligence.
So I gather from your posts that the issue is not that MacKeeper harms your computer, but opens it up to a barrage of unwanted spam -- I certainly don't want that, I get enough of that already.
In addition to that, I have had to help users with Macs where MacKeeper,
corrupted the files system to the point of it being unusable,
removed files from the system so that the Mac could no longer boot.
and causing a generally slowness that was only fixed by the nuclear solution of a reinstall of OS X.

You probably have adware installed. See -> http://www.thesafemac.com/announcing-admedic/ - for the AdMedic adware removal tool.

Ciao.
I have to say I have been wrong about Mac Keeper and a bit naive, as well. I got some malware that somehow infected my iMac under the "protection of Mac Keeper" and it caused havoc. It cost me $250 to get it cleaned up by an outside company. I have removed Mac Keeper from my computer.
My bad. Live & learn.

What annoys me is the results of my investigations into why my Mac was persistently crashing (even leaving me in precarious situations wrt retrieving a bootable file system on occasions).
Mackeeper played a role in solving the problem in the end. Yup, you've got to the punchline early - removing Mackeeper solved the problem......
Trevor.
Only prob is that at the moment you can’t get the latest version, 2.7.5 from the App store—which is kind of strange. I prefer to get my apps from the App Store. But it isolated three bad things? to a folder on my desktop and which I then trashed. My computer had gone haywire and nothing would fix it and I spend a full day backing up my data to do a complete re-install but didn’t have to do it after running ClamXav, latest version. Don’t know why the latest version is not on the App Store.
Namaste and care,

DO NOT put this crap on your PC!
I thought I was doing a good thing and had them install it a couple weeks ago. Went to sync my phone a few days ago and learned EVERYTHING in iPhotos disappeared. Of course they say I deleted it…blah, blah.
I am not tech savvy at all and the main reason I bought the MacBook was to keep/store photos. Now they (thousands) are gone and I am SICK!!!
It is exactly for that reason that I always suggest you should set up a valid backup program to protect your data.
Old IT maxim; The lost of data it a certainty. The only question is went it will happen.
Do not install the mac keeper. The mac keeper makes your computer less secure, slower and can potentially let malware and viruses leak in. Some mackeeper users have started experiencing "random crashes" and "restrictions" due to mac keeper. Avoid mackeeper as much as possible, as it can seriously wreck havoc.
