MacKeeper is horrible malware that causes a "virus warning" to pop up in your browser that freezes the functionality of your computer until you force quit the browser several times. I'm STILL trying to get rid of it! You are misrepresenting your product and I can't imagine what you are gaining from hijacking peoples computers like this other than an evil twisted chuckle. Why don't you show some good will towards the "legitimacy" of your product and tell us how to stop this annoying malicious virus addware that all of sudden started popping up AFTER we did the free (except for the major headache of this software) download? I have deleted it from my system (which was a headache as well) and now I'm getting this popup which I NEVER got before this bogus mackeeper program.

Hi, i hit the download button for this program this morning and then read the reviews here. I then went to my downloads and deleted it before i installed it on the computer and then i emptied my trash bin. Have I removed it completely ( i am new to apple computers). I am hoping since i didn't install it from my downloads i am safe.

Thanks for for your thoughts, Natalia

Where I hear that a friend has bought a mac computer the first thing that I do is send them the link to this discussion and tell them to under no circumstanced download Mac Keeper!

BTW.. with all the negative press on the product how on earth is this company staying afloat?... There must be a lot of broken Mac's around from the poor folks who got sucked in! 😟

I downloaded mackeeper for my mackbook back in 2008 and i just upgraded to a mackbook air in 2013 and I am not planning on downloading mackeeper again for five reasons:

1. It overheats my MacBook

2. It slows down my MacBook

3. It pops up ads at randomly

4. It DRAINS MY BATTERY!!!

5. It's FAKE!

I am a newbie to this discussion forum but I am not a noob at OSX 🙂

Are there any other reputible applications or software that can 'clean up my mac'?

No, do not install anything that claims to be able to 'clean' 'optimize' or 'protect' your Mac, they are all unreliable, some are just plain dangerous (MacKeeper for one)

Instead try to find the issue, insufficient disk space is one area that will slow your Mac down, insufficient Ram for your useage is another, 3rd party apps are also a common cause.

Make a new user account, make it an Admin and then reboot into it, check the performance while logged into it and post back.

I find it absolutely amazing how many people have written negative remarks about Mackeeper !

I have had it on my Mac for years and so do most of my friends with Macs and not ONE of us ( 26 friends and family at last count) have EVER had a problem.

Sure Zeobit (now Kromtech I believe) have used aggressive advertising in the past including pop-ups (which noone likes!), but that does not mean it is viral or damaging.

And how interesting that they have been one of the main sponsors of the Macworld Trade Fairs and have excellent reviews and gold star awards from all the Professional reviewers such as Brothersoft & Tucows and others with extensive experience with Macs. And none of the professional reviewers complained of slowed-down machines or deleted data...

Also interesting how few of you mention the heavily negative Ad campaign run by a clearly intimidated rival !

I, personally spoke to a lot of people, professional and not, and read many discussions and blogs before I "took the risk" and decided to try it for myself...

... and have never looked back.

Just sayin'...

your position is groundless. All the professionals here warn against using MacKeeper

its both useless

not needed,

and causes issues that are many and all bad.

MacKeeper is damaging

it is never needed

Your subjective conjectures are noted and notwithstanding to professional mass consensus that this is a bad product absolutely not recommended by anyone 'in the know'

Peace 😊

Beware: MacKeeper is highly invasive. Simply put, you do not need it, and just go and read all the comments regarding problems people have had, including slowdowns.

But apart from that, is there anyone here who is not sick of MacKeeper's plethora of browser popups, redirects, spam pages and trick links? Even if this crapware sped up my system by an order of magntitude, I would not give these hucksters (Zeobit, now chaged to Krontech Alliance) one dollar for it. But no, it doesn't do that. What it can do is seriously damage your OS. Just google MacKeeper+damage and see how many people have suffered that consequence.

And then there are the fake reviewers that have saturated the internet with glowing testimonials. Just have a look at mikochiko (above) for an example, and in the 19 pages of this thread, there are many other shills. On their FaceBook page, they hide any remotely critcal comnents. Now ask yourself - would you install something that roots itself deep in your OS from a company that resorts to such unethical practices?

So to mimochiko and your merry band of shills and hucksters - please go away. We are onto you here.

Mac Keeper is one of the applications that you should keep away from your Mac. Such applications may not clean your Mac, but will give you some definite troubles like Pop-ups, that may eventually decrease the speed affecting in the performance. So the applications which were supposed to increase the performance of your Mac will only increase the performance for putting their advertisements only. That is why you should think why these applications come free of cost to you via online marketing. Just think of, from where will they earn there money after investing into advertisements on several rich websites !

is it safe to download the mackeeper?
