MacKeeper is horrible malware that causes a "virus warning" to pop up in your browser that freezes the functionality of your computer until you force quit the browser several times. I'm STILL trying to get rid of it! You are misrepresenting your product and I can't imagine what you are gaining from hijacking peoples computers like this other than an evil twisted chuckle. Why don't you show some good will towards the "legitimacy" of your product and tell us how to stop this annoying malicious virus addware that all of sudden started popping up AFTER we did the free (except for the major headache of this software) download? I have deleted it from my system (which was a headache as well) and now I'm getting this popup which I NEVER got before this bogus mackeeper program.

I downloaded mackeeper and straight away I could not open my Microsoft office files. Mackeepers response to my problem was slow, in the end they offered to give me back my money for the product but I have lost so much in regard to files, and I cannot find my disc to reinstall my Office. In the end I have lost a lot more money. I asked them to pay for a new Office program, but I have not heard back from them. I wouldn't touch Mackeeper with the proverbial 40 foot pole.

I have heard about Mackeeper before and have seen couple of ads of it, i have decided to visit their website to learn more about it, i pressed on downloads to see what the program represents but i haven't pressed to download the file. The file started to wonload by it's self without my permission, i found that strange and decided to make researches about it then i came up with this conversation. i am worried now about my computer, the program has been downloaded but i didn't open/run it i just deleted straight way when i saw this conversation. my question is, is my computer infected by any virus or anything even though the program was just downloaded not opened?

I installed Mackeeper, but have noted the issues of constant pop-ups and aggrevating slow-downs in my Mac's performance. After reading these threads, I decided to remove it. Thanks to whomever recommended AppDelete as this seems to have worked wonderfully. I must add that I was convinced to remove Mackeeper when I read the reply of the supposed "representative". It was so poorly written, it convinced me that the program itself was junk as I suspected. About the only thing this program did for me was continually remind me it was there with those annoying "legit" pop-ups and the frustrating stop-and-go performance of my Mac. So, if you are looking for my opinion about Mackeeper, I would say don't bother. Look at established and respected companies if you feel you need protection. I heard Macafee was working on something for Macs. Anything has to be better than Mackeeper.

This thread is a summer. I'm by no means an expert on such things, but I just thought I should throw my 2 cents in.

I downloaded MacKeeper earlier this year and have used it constantly ever since. I do primarily video work with my macbook pro and use MacKeeper to clean out my chaches, etc. I've noticed no problems and have used it on two different computers. I'm sorry to see that so many people are opposed to the software, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't use it and like it.

Andy, we have no idea who you are, but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that after the flagrantly dishonest and deceptive efforts Zeobit has made to promote MacKeeper in these forums and many other places on the web, anyone who signs up here and makes a single post praising MacKeeper is bound to be suspected by many of being a shill for it. If you aren't one, fine, but if you are, let this post be your last on the subject.

eww (the user, not the sound)--

Understood. I knew it would sound odd if I just jumped in in such a way. I assure you, I am a real person with no affiliation to MacKeeper, but, of course, me saying that doesn't mean much, which is okay. Also, I would not consider myself tremendously knowledgable in this area, so I'm not even sure my opinion matters too terribly much. I use my computer constantly, but really only live in the video and photo side of things. As far as any viruses and the like, I am sadly quite simple-minded. That's why something like MacKeeper treated me well. At its best, it cleared out a couple gigs of space on an overloaded computer. I have noticed ads for it popping up, but I can't say that it seems to have increased since I bought the program.

I guess, bottom line, I am sorry to hear that MacKeeper has a bad reputation. It's treated me well and I felt the need to express that. I haven't noticed any issues, but as I've said, I'm fairly simple-minded when it comes to most of the innerworkings of my lovely macbook pro. It sounds like enough people have had bad experiences with either the prgram or the company to make me think twice about their software, but to this point, this is the first negative experience I've had. I just got a new computer this week and am now wondering if I should keep is MacKeeper free (although it's already too late...)

I'll refer once again to:

Since I wrote that, Zeobit has put significant effort into trying to get me to change my story, including (no joke) offering me a job. They will stop at nothing. The company is completely unethical.

Further, since I wrote that, I've received a number of reports from people getting pop-up ads all the time after removing MacKeeper. It is very difficult to entirely remove and begins doing obnoxious things when you don't get it all.

If you trusted this software before knowing what we know, you were duped. But please don't continue to justify it.

Cleaning up caches is a false way to improve the performance of your system.

Caches are in fact designed to speed it up so deleting them only slows it down.

True there are occasions when it does happen that they become corrupt and can cause a system slow down. The last time I cleaned up my cache was so long ago I can't even remember when it was now.

To have some to clean caches I place in the same category as having something here in Colorado to scare off elephants.

I generally consider MacKeeper a waste of money and way to cause your Mac to be less reliable rather then more.
