Hi,

Is the Camera appearing in System Profiler/Information (the app changes it's name in Mountain Lion)

GO top the Apple Icon top left and hold the menu open and hold the ALT key down to see the top item change to System Profiler (or Information).

Look under USB for Internal Cameras.

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro OS X Lion 10.7.5. The built-in iSight doesn't anymore (for all users and applications), and the computer recognizes it. On both Photobooth and iChat it just shows a black screen. I'm not sure what to do. I've done everything on here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 except restting the SMC or PMU, because I'm not sure what the MagSafe power adapter is or if my battery is removable.

Hi,

Saying which OS the Laptop is running does not really tell us very much about the model the Mac is.

My MacBook Pro is from 2007

(MacBook Pro as opposed to PowerBook tells me it is Intel Prosessors)

Mine has the first Intel type which was Core Duo.

The later version of Core 2 Duo can run Mountain Lion.

Mine can only run up to Snow Leopard.

HI,

The OS that the MacBook Pro can run may not be enough to identify it.

The Magsafe is just the power cord that is held in place by a magnet that is easily pulled away if the power cord happens to be tripped over.

The Battery compartment if there is one will be on the Bottom and will have an opening mechanism of some sort.

This page may be of some help

HI,

This Apple Article says that the Battery is part of the Hardware accessories.

It also suggests you have the MacBook Pro not long after mine (which I have checked is actually 2006), which was the Processor upgrade.

On mine the battery panel if located underneath, almost dead center with two sliding catches.

This Wikipedia table says the Battery is removable

Hi,

I know that with Logic boards the Apple Serial Number is "flashed" to a memory storage area and that the system can access it. (it seems since OS X 10.8.2 that is used to verify FaceTime and iMessages registrations)

I am not sure if the Serial Number of a component such as this can have the Serial Number changed.

On my MacBook Pro ver 1,1 I have an iSight internal camera version 1.89

System Profiler under Snow Leopard does not list a Serial Number for this Product. (The Hard Drive info does include it but the Optical Drive does not)

On my iMac version 12,1 (Intel Core i5) the camera does lists a Serial Number.

It has changed to being called a FaceTime camera at version 7.55

Serial Numbers for other devices and hardware items also seem to be shown.

As you appear to have tried most things it would seem it is time to Visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider to get this sorted (or at least more info).

Hello!

My built-in iSight does not work for a long time, so I made up my mind that she would never work. But now I have a friend overseas and I want to talk with him with Skype or Facetime.

I've tried all that people has talk here, I switch users, I have restarted my SMC, I looked for the .plist archives, ANYTHING on the 5 pages of this discussion forum!! And she still not working...

I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2008) with OSX 10.8.2, in my System Information my iSight is not recognized, even when users switch...

Please help me!!!

Then use the remainingsuggestion from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090:

"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

If you do not have access to a local AASP, use the Apple Support option you prefer.

Unless you have a current backup, make one before having your Mac serviced.

Hi,

In some cases in early MacBooks and MacBook Pros the routing of the USB cable from the motherboard through the hinge and up the back of the Screen to the camera could cause the cable to "pull" on the camera and come detached with regular use of the hinge.

In other cases if you had a desk that you could walk around, picking up the laptop by the lid tended to cause a "pinch" near the camera point in the top center of the bevel (Screen Surround).

As the first is regular use Apple Care may have covered it at the time if it has been a very long time out of action.

The second is Misuse and may have cost you.

Right now if the SMC/PMU reset has not worked then it is time to visit the Apple Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider and have it checked out.

It seems in AppleCare cases Apple replace the whole Screen. (It is probably cost effective for them to do this and they can recover usable parts later and not lose time in straight labour costs).

There are also sites like iFIXIt that have instructions for do-it-yourself Example page

(this may not be your Model but will give you an idea of what is involved labour and parts wise.)

The alternative is to buy a USB 2.0 UVC Compliant camera.

Ever since Vista for Windows was released Cameras have tended to be USB 2.0 and also UVC compliant

UVC stands for USB Video Class and needs no driver in Windows and Mac OS X since OS 10.4.9

This is likely to cost less than any repair.
