Has anyone had their iTunes account hacked recently 5/2011?

I just received 2 e-mails from iTunes showing purchases of $50 gift cards. When I accessed my account, it had been hacked and my address information was changed from Florida to Mass. but my correct phone number was unchanged as well as my password. I tried to contact iTunes but the ONLY contact is through e-mail. In cases of security or fraud, there should be a toll free number where you can actually talk to someone within a reasonable time. All I received from my e-mail to iTunes was an e-mail saying thanks for contacting them and I should hear from them within 48 hrs. That is simply not acceptable as a business practice for any company that claims to support their customers. Has anyone else had problems recently - Could this be related to the recent large data thefts, and if so why hasn't Apple notified their customers?

It may help to notify MacRumors or Appleinsider.

I have sent a couple of e-mails to MacRumors and their response was basically, stuff happens . . .

The troubling part is that this looks like an inside job and by the discussions here, I don't see the common thread.

I am a moderately prudent user of iTunes and the App Store and have not seen any phishing attempt.

Also, this showed up at appleinsider and I haven't seen any resonse:

At some point, there needs to be a larger response.

Thoughts?

Quick Update. Looks like my account is now UNDISABLED! Last night I was looking at my iTunes wish list and saw some games from my old account now say "downloaded" and wouldn't allow me to repurchase them under my new Apple ID.

So I signed into my disabled ID and was able to fully update all my old app's, plus I was also able to use the $25 credit I had sitting in the account so I used that up right away. So not sure what's going on but account seems active again.

Problem is I created a 2nd account which I repurchased alot of apps on, so now I have 2 active accounts since they cannot be consolidated. Just glad it's working.

Mine was hacked last Friday night. Hacker purchased using my credit card spend over $110 worth Kylie Minogue's Greatest hits remix. Because it was Friday night I wasn't able to contact Apple for help. I managed to cancel

My credit card & had to wait till Monday to contact & report of this. They refunded money to my bank bit damage was done. Of course email they promised never arrived.

It must happen rather often consider how quickly they refunded my money.

Once I finish my mobile contract I won't be renewing my contract with iPhone 4. I will be going with Samsung. They just ignored my concern for security measure they provided for customers. We are not important to Apple obviously.

I was told by technical support dude that my password was useless because it was so easy to break.

RIGHT!

Disappointed!

Can't trust no more!

Still waiting for that apology & answer that were promised to me.

little helpful bit for anybody else in the same spot...

If somebody's broken into your accoutn once, they will likely try again.

When they try (and fail) enough times, you're going to get locked out of your account.

Change the email address associated with your account. For them to get in, they need both the user id (email) and password. If you change the email associated with your account, they no longer have that first necessary part to try and break in. If you use gmail, you can simply add a "." in your email address

ex:

adamsmith@gmail.com - original

adam.smith@gmail.com - altered address. At gmail, mail sent to this address will still go to the original adamsmith@gmail.com inbox.

@kelt4ever --

Hi, I have been seeing these discussions crop up a lot. I was interested in speaking to you / emailing a greater length about your problem. I'm a journalist writing about this. Is there a way to pm/email you? (I don't see a private message option here, if this sound noob-ish forgive me I haven't been on apple forums in a while)

I'll talk with you but I don't see your email address in your profile.

This happened to me six days ago. I woke up to several emails telling me about payments from my PayPal account. Upon investigation, I found that a free app called Kingdom Conquest had been "purchased" (quotes because it was a free app) and subsequently several purchases of credits/coins/whatever were made through my iTunes account. They dinged me for about $100 from PayPal and wiped out my iTunes balance as well.

I filed disputes with PayPal and reported it to Apple. I heard back within an hour from Apple, and they refunded my credit balance, but basically said that if it happened again they would not refund my balance. Meanwhile, I have changed my iTunes password and username and removed my payment options (other than the iTunes balance). Bizarrely, the hacker (if that's what it was) didn't attempt to lock me out of my account or change any of my account information. Thank goodness for that. Be aware, however, that this is ongoing. I was not phished. I have a long, complicated (but not random) password. Still, they got access to my account.

I am still waiting to hear back from PayPal about reimbursement from Apple. I should hear something from them tomorrow as it will have been seven days.

The continuing saga of trying to get iTunes to re-enable my account, so I can have access to my purchases, apps, software updates, etc. Been trying to work with Apple / iTunes since early May to resolve this issue.

As some of you have found out, the first time your account gets hacked, iTunes will reset everything and refund your loss. Second time, they say "sorry" and close your account. You loose everything!

Now I get a message from "Brittany, an iTunes Store Senior Advisor" who tells me, "it is not necessary to repurchase any of your previous purchases." Well, here is the exact message that I get on my iTouch and iPad when I try to update or sync:

"This discounted price is only available to customers who own a previous version of this item. To purchase this item at full price, click BUY. You have not owned a previous major version of this item. You have to buy it at full price. Would you like to buy it?"

As I have said before, you don't buy items from iTunes, you only RENT them for temporary use. They will close your account and force you to repurchase everything again, and again, and again.

My computer still has the music that I loaded from our personal CD's. Apps, Movies, TV shows etc. that were purchased from the iTunes Store account are not available on the PC. When the apps need updates, they try to connect to the iTunes Store, old account, that is closed. Doing the app updates with the new iTunes Store account is where the "Buy It Now" message comes up, forcing a re-purchase of the app. Same thing happens for music, movies, etc. etc.
