For nearly four years I have had my old original iPhone connected to my Kenwood stereo using the Kenwood KCA-iP500 interface. Never had to change the battery...I'm in my vehicle virtually all day long. Bought a new iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S, and guess what....that's right, they do not charge on the Kenwood unit. That means I have to take a 5 year technological step BACKWARDS and revert to the 2 cable system: one for the audio out to the stereo, and one to charge the unit! And that little audio out connector is not really robust enough to handle the thrashing around my Land Cruiser gives it.

I am severely disappointed with this situation.

The Kenwood unit allows me to control the iPhone from the touchscreen of the Kenwood, and I like that capability.

Don't tell me about cleaning connectors....the units are brand new.....Apple has a problem and seriously needs to address it with a permanent fix!

The original iPhone supported Firewire charging. All iPhones since then have not; probably not enough room inside the phone for 2 chargers. There are adapters that will convert firewire to USB for later phones.

Apple does not have to address with a permanent fix for technology that is more than 5 years old (like your Kenwood). Technology moves on.

So, anything Apple does is good, no matter how it affects the users; that is a strange concept! If we are to believe the crap about dirty connectors, Apple is to blame for sending them out with dirty connectors. Apple buyers are just supposed to know somehow that they need to clean the connector on their new units if they want it to charge reliably. I have seen a lot of discussion with problems right out of the box. Apple products will not get any better if they ignore complaints, and certain people defend them no matter what.

Funny thing is that I can charge my units on 5 and 10 year old computers!

The least they could do is warn up front that there could be charging problems due to changes they have made. I have read comments from people whose units were fine until they upgraded to IOS 5.

So, the thing I should do is change my stereo to solve an Apple problem? Is there a list somewhere of Apple approved stereo units, or should I just go by trial and error buying stereos, adaptors, and cables until I come up with the magic solution to an Apple problem?

You are confusing totally different issues. Dirty connectors cause most instances of this error WHEN THE DEVICE IS NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING AND THE MESSAGE STILL APPEARS. You would know this if you even skimmed the thread you posted to.

All iPhones will charge via USB. In addition the original iPhone also charged via a 12 volt Firewire connection. Apple told manufacturer's over 5 years ago that Firewire was being phased out. they continued to support it with the original iPhone, but dropped it with the 3G. Your stereo probably predates the iPhone, because to be labeled "iPhone compatible" devices had to support USB charging. ANY device that says iPhone compatible will work with all iPhones. Apple does not list all compatible devices, but it DOES tell manufacturers what they have to do to be compatible with a specific device. If they do this they are allowed to say "iPhone compatible".

The solution (assuming you want one, as opposed to just ranting) was stated in my previous message; get a Firewire to USB power adapter. Here are two:

I am an Apple user, I am not an Apple fanatic. I turn it on, I plug it in, I expect it to work. I have no need to defend nor apologize for Apple.

I am a professional oil field consultant, my vehicle is my office, my iPad is my computer, and my iPhone is for my communications. I have to give results and I will not say to my boss, "I'm sorry, I cannot provide, my battery is dead."

I live and work in a fairly hostile environment in Venezuela.

I have a working USB charger in my vehicle; what I do not like is that I have to have two cables. I simply do not like the little audio connector. So, I have two devices, and yes, I am virtually paranoid about keeping batteries charged; for Safety and reliability.

If you want to call it ranting, ok I'm ranting in this forum because that is where Apple steered me when I wanted to express what I think about the charging system. Just that simple! Maybe I do not know how to find the right person at Apple to talk with. But I am sure that Apple monitors these forums, and I am doubly sure that you are not an Apple employee.

I have the exact problem. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes for the yellow message to come up, some time right when I plug in. Tried all the possibilities:

1. Using different USB cable/ Head charger/ using MBP/ diff outlets

2. Use the cable with iphone 2G (not os 5) works fine.

3. Brought to Genius bar, this is what they do:

- Using different head charger

- Using different USB cable

- Connect to MBP

- Check the battery, result: good, in working condition

- Clean the bottom connector

- Restore to manufacturer settings

All those results to "NADA" still same yellow message.

Their solution: replace the iphone

Since it was purchased 14 months ago, Oopsss! Sorry you have to pay $150!

I am okay to pay if it's user's error, however based on google search and this forum, lots of people are getting same problem, isnt it possibly a manufacturer fault?!! My voice is too small for a giant company like Apple 😟 I believe that's what all others are thinking and just take the easy solution, sell it on craigslist, pass on the problem to other.

I just had the same problem occur about five minutes ago and immediatly search online for help and came across this forum discussion and did as someone suggested and it worked. I unplugged from the charger, blew in the bottom of my phone where you plug into at, blew on both ends of my apple charger and blew dust away from my wall outlet and plugged into the same wall outlet but in the top one(is was in the bottom one) & presto! It works again. I hope this works for y'all. If not give apple a call, last time I had phone trouble they were beyond helpful!

My two cents:

Same thing happened to me this morning, went to charge through powered USB hub, as I usually do and 'charging is not supported with this accessory' popped up. Cleaned connectors as suggested, no dice. Changed sockets on USB hub still no dice.

I then plugged the cable into the wall socket charger and no warning sign and iPhone 3GS with iOS 5 is now charging.

I'm using the nearly 2 years old original cable btw.

I then waited a while and reconnected the cable to the powered hub but warning sign popped up so back to the wall charger.

This whole scenario happened a few months ago and eventually went away all by itself, don't ask me why.

So its a recurrent problem. It would be nice if a list of possible causes for this particular problem could be posted somewhere (Apple tech note??), it would certainly help users diagnose this issue with their respective iPhone/iOS combinations/versions.

#ready42001

You do have rights as a consumer. I had my iPhone replaced free of charge (it was replaced with a reconditioned unit) when I had what turned out to a hardware problem with the phone. I was just within my Apple warranty. But I was also well within my telco's warranty from whom I'd bought the iPhone.

So if you bought yr iPhone on a 2 yr plan from yr telco then you might still be covered ready42001

Ahoj

Jak někteří píší ..

"Charging is not supported with this accesorry"

"Nabíjení není podporováno přes toto příslušenství"

Pokud máte připojen iPhone do sítě normálně nabíjí

ale když ho vysunete hlásí :"Nabíjení není podporováno přes toto příslušenství"

Pokyny:

-vypněte iPhone horním tlačítkem

-použijte ostrý předmět např. jehlu

-a pokuste se pod lampou vyndat veškeré nečistoty

-iPhone potom zapněte a je to.

Dobrá práce 🙂 please like

Apple i am sick of yoyr company ignoring this major issue and conflicts with your phones.i have tried many different remedies to get my phone to charge properly i have restored my device even purchased 3 cords n 3 chargers the issue stops for a inane amount of time and starts back up again. This message is driving me nuts is there any thing you can give your customers to stop this issue software update maybe?? for my 3Gs

I've got a similar problem. When I charge my iPhone 3GS using the official USB cable that came with the phone, hooked up to the computer, it charges fine. However, if I use a non-apple-branded wall charger, I get this error message.

I'm on iOS 5.0.1.

So, from comparing my problem with the thread, I would have to conclude that it isn't dirt in the connector as the USB cable works fine. I've also tried the hard boot suggestion and the "reset warnings" suggestion, but without any success.
