when I try to update my apps on the ipad the box that pops up has the wrong apple ID in it and I can not change it no matter what I do. I have re set the info in the settings and when viewed there the info is correct. When I get into the app store I still get the wrong ID no matter what I do... anyone have any suggestions

Signing out from Settings->Store definitely does not solve the problem articulated here. Somewhere on the device, the old account is stored as the default for things like the AppStore app, even if a new account is set up, signed into, etc via Settings. It looks to me like signing out does not clean up a config on the device somewhere.

By the way, snarky comments about "Why would someone have created two accounts?" are not terribly helpful. There are a million reasons why folks would have different accounts. For me, it had to do with separation of work and home. Regardless, it's not on the point and fails to address the problem at hand.

Any purchased items store the account name.

Why are you telling me? Pretty sure I did not write that...

And the answer may be helpful because some people create multiple accounts simply because they think they need a new account for every device.

Then they end up with purchases from more than one account and have problems.

Hey. Just got finished dealing with this exact problem. When I updated to iOS 6.1, my password for my old Apple ID went into the ether. Since this was on an old, obsolete (and embarrassingly lame) hotmail account, I couldn't reset my password by email notification. I set up a new account, linked the old account somehow, but still nothing. Spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support today, he suggested "transferring my apps", but of course you need your old password for that. Come to the conclusion that re-downloading all apps on the new Apple ID is the only way. Good thing I don't have too many apps that I paid for! Just gonna be a pain in the *** systematically deleting and re-installing all my apps. Sorry, this isn't helpful really, but it's the only solution I've come across. Good luck to everyone!

Contact Apple support for assistance to reset your password then you can change the AppleID.

You cannot "link" iTunes accounts to each other.

Whnen you get access to your iTunes account, no need to delete/reinstall anything.

Haha oh whatever man. I don't think you're understanding what anyone is saying and just being an *** about it. Or maybe I wasn't clear. Apple Support can't just reset your password if you are locked out and don't have access to the attached email address anymore (due to it being shut down after not being used for so long). I specifically asked as I had my credit card on file with it and loads of ways to prove it was my account, but he specifically told me they can't just reset a password without sending it to that email.

I can still use all of my apps from being previously purchased. However when there is an update, I can't update them as my password has malfunctioned. So that is when I just delete and reinstall.

I completely understand and where do you think I was being 3 stars?

If that's what the Apple rep told you, he was wrong. Plenty of people here have had their password reset with email accounts they nmo longer have access to.

Call them back or send email to support -> http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

Have you tried answering the security questions instead of sending email?

I just started experiencing the problem last night when upgrading to iOS 6.1. Everything else on the phone works under my account, but the App Store itself displays my wife's ID to verify before updating any apps. I believe it is due to my wife's e-mail address being associated with the iTunes account on our laptop. I tried to make sure my account was the one associated on iTunes, but I guess there is something I forgot to change.

Let me know if this may be changeable on my phone (I tried the settings for apps and iCloud, to no avail).
