Except it obviously doesn't work if I tried that already. I want to use my Apple ID not my brothers. Anyway it fixed by signing out of iTunes through my settings, uninstalling the apps that wouldn't update, then reinstalling them and when you do that it asks you to sign into your Apple ID. But it's still inconvenient if you have several apps.

So here's my deal...I'm given a MacBook Pro that had belonged to my wife's aunt. I change the user account over to my name, my info, my Apple ID - removing all traces of the aunt from the hardware/OS. I then update the OS to Mavericks.

The app store tells me that I've got updates to iMovie and iPhoto ready to download - keep in mind that these are FREE SYSTEM-RELATED UPDATES...the aunt NEVER went in with her own Apple ID and purchased these as standalone 'apps'. The app store tells me that I'm signed-in as me, so I go ahead and click 'update'.

Up comes the aunt's Apple ID in an uneditable field, looking for a password - same garbage you guys have been on about. BUT - in my case - these original elements of the system itself never had any connection or relation to the aunt AT ALL...If anything, when I upgraded to Mavericks - and did so with my own Apple ID - iMovie and iPhoto SHOULD be connected to ME!

Advice?

We have a Mac Server that is running OSX 10.7 with server utilities. The Mac was setup by an employee that is now longer with the company. When we try to updated it to OSX 10.9 we get a message that the App must be updated with the persons Apple ID that is no longer with the company. Since we have 1000+ computers using services off of the server we cannot shut it down to format/erase the drive.

We setup a new departmental Apple ID so this doesn't happen again. We have already purchased the server utilities App and used this AppleID to setup, purchase and run updates on several Macs around our sites. Since all of the Apps on the server needing updated are also purchased under the AppleID there shouldn't be a problem with licensing. How can we get by the AppleID problem? There should be a way to have the App Store check the new AppleID to verify that the new ID has rights to the Apps and update them.

Same prob here. I gave my 3rd gen to my daughter. She escaped Apple-madness for a laptop lol Now i am signed into the ITunes store with my ID in Settings but updates for apps show her Apple ID. There's no option outside of settings to change the apple ID. Apple needs to fix this bug - I have too many apps to reinstall evrything - especially since every Ipad I've owned (1-3) & every iPhone has bricked when i try to synch it. I take it to the store so they see it working. If they brick it, they have to replace it. Lol

Come on - APPLE!

Hi Gandolf,

Apparently you've been spending too much time in the Shire - annfrombath's post was in 2011....

The problem she described is likely not an issue with the wrong Apple ID being signed on, but rather a situation where the apps were purchased with an old Apple ID, and a new (separate) one has since been created. Apps are forever tied to the ID they were purchased under. So, when a new (separate) Apple ID is created, the apps purchased under that old ID will continue to ask for that old ID's password when updating apps.

Cheers,
