Chris, I already said I am talking about the apps that come with the laptop. I don't care about apps that he downloaded with his ID (I have already deleted those, like I also already said), I am talking about the core applications that come with every macbook, so yes, I DID purchase these apps and I AM entitled to them. I have the receipt for $2,700.00 to prove it. Before you get snippy and condescending with people, read and consider what they are saying. If you don't understand their issue, move on without replying. Anybody else?

Thats was after I said I had removed all the users content and accounts. Anyway, I am talking about Garage Band, iMovie, iPhoto, Mail, etc. I can't remember if Safari is included in this or not, but it very well could be. It has not come up for update since I have taken over this machine. I don't understand why applications that were on the laptop when it was purchased would require his password to now update. Seems like a bug to me.

I think the problem described here is a bit more insidious than just "cleaning up iTunes" (even though the procedure described in the last post seems like it "could" work for the iTunes portion of the problem).

Scenario:

- iPhone and iTunes are using account OLD@work.com.

- For whatever reason the owner gets fed up with OLD@work.com (maybe like my wife, he was using a company email and changed company so he no longer has access to the old email). Does this totally aware of losing any for-pay purchased apps.

- Creates a new appleId NEW@home.com.

- Sets NEW@home.com as the iPhone and iCloud appleId. Sets NEW@home.com as the iTunes appleId.

Now... the stupid iPhone isn't smart enough to respect the new appleID and ask "do you want to delete the apps purchased with the old ID?" Instead, it just keeps asking for the password of the old appleID, which the user might not remember. And since he no longer has the old email... he can't do password recovery to get rid of the garbage prompts.

So, let's assume that Apple is too lazy or uncaring to address the above issue (probably not, probably just have a huge backlog, or have not yet understood that it is a serious issue).

How would a user identify WHICH application ON THE PHONE and iTunes do NOT correspond to the current appleID?

Your response is to a post that is over 3 years old, and your statements are absolutely erroneous:

Wrong - whether or not the old email is still around or not, the Apple ID that is set up using that email address is still functional. All you have to do is go to Manage your Apple ID, and click on Reset Password to reset a password on any Apple ID, whether is still has a valid email address or not.

Secondly, why would you set up a brand new Apple ID instead of just changing the existing Apple ID that has the email address that you no longer wants to use? It's not rocket science - you just go to Manage your Apple ID and edit it.

I would suggest that you learn how to manage your Apple ID in future. Bottom line is that Apps (and other media) are forever tied to the Apple Account that they were purchased under. You can change the ID on that account a hundred times and the apps will still be updateable. If you set up a brand new Apple Account, not only do you lose the ownership of media purchased under the other Apple Account, but you also lose all information stored under iCloud for that Apple Account - Notes, Calendars, Messages, Contacts, Photos....

ROFL Gail, did you consider that unless you remember the answers to the secret questions... you can only reset your password if the email address is still valid?

Also, the post may be old, but the problem still exists. It has obviously never been fixed.

Either way, there are no restrictions to "sticking with an old account". A customer is supposed to be free to change accounts as long as he is willing to lose past purchases. As a matter of fact... I believe Apple requires it if you move permanently to another country/AppleStore area.

A customer isn't supposed to get harassed by poor programming that keeps asking for an account that is not the one in the phone's Settings/iTunes/AppleID. Lame is lame. Defending lameness instead of giving a solution is pointless, and if you were an apple employee... then it would be gross incompetence.

And no I am not talking from ignorance, even if "that is how it works today". I am a software developer myself. If I designed and coded something that poorly thought out and then antagonized users that noticed the flaw instead of fixing ASAP... I'd get fired on the spot. But then, maybe that is why Apple has volunteers manning these forums instead of having an easy to find proper customer support department.

What I would suggest as a start is answering what people are asking for: HOW DO WE IDENTIFY EVERYTHING PRESENT IN AN iPHONE THAT IS USING AN APPLE ID DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IS IN "Settings/iTunes/AppleID". And then submit an iOS request for enhancement to provide an easy to use mechanism that is on the phone and is obvious enough that people can find it without coming to the forums.

If you want to make a suggestion to Apple do so here: Apple - Feedback

And again, your post makes no sense. Why would anyone create a new Apple ID and lose all of their past purchases when they can just change the one they have?

Also, it is very simple to find out which app is tied to the old ID. Update one app at a time. When one comes up with the password request to the old ID, delete it.

Finally, if you forget the answers to your Security Questions, and the Rescue email address (which is not the same as the Apple ID email address) is also no longer valid, then all you have to do is contact Apple Support to get them reset: ACCOUNT SECURITY CONTACT
