Still ******* happening in 2016, smh come on Apple get your **** together. I had a 2nd Apple ID and I pressed sign out and now it completely just stayed on there for updates, guess I'll have old apps forever (((((:

It is going to happen forever. The Apple ID that you are currently signed in with does not own the app you are trying to update. You have three choices:

1. Type in the password for the other ID (I use the same password for both of mine, so when it asks, I don't care which it is - I type in the same thing)

2. Delete the apps and repurchase them with the ID you want to use

3. Set up Family Sharing and invite your other ID to join

Whether or not you have signed out of that other Apple ID, is not the point. The point is that the apps you are trying to update were purchased by that other ID, and you are being asked to supply the password to that other ID to confirm ownership.

Purchased media has always been tied to the Apple ID that it was purchased under. That's how it works. When you want to change your Apple ID, you should change it, not set up a new Apple account.

I figured it out!! The ID that you are seeing is from you having 1 of the same apps as the person at the store that you bought your phone from. When they transferred all of your apps into their computer you had 1 of the same apps as what was in that computer and when it transferred to your phone ... the id traveled with it. You have to select each update button ( not "update all" ) and you will get to the one that asks you to log into the bogus ID. Delete it from your phone and go to your purchases and hit update there. You get a new version of that app and it belongs to you now. After all your apps have your ID attached to them ... you can start using update all again :)

Guys... I posted the solution thatworked for me. When I looked up the subject there was nothing on it and nobody had any answer as to why there was some random Apple account asking me to sign into it. out of the kindness of my heart I decided to post what had worked for me and fixed my phone and I do not care what your opinion of it is, I was just putting something here in case there was somebody out there that this could help.

To be correct, you told us what (you seem to think) annefrombath did.

There are 20 previous pages explaining how to correct it.

I have exactly the same problem on my Iphone6S+. The problem started with my photos no longer syncing to iCloud, and memory was down to 70MB so I went to the genius bar, where they recommended I do I reset and restore from iCloud back up. The operation was a success the memory increased to 3GB + and photo syncing restarted just fine. Shortly after, an entirely new pop up kept flashing on the screen "Sign in to iTunes Store Enter the password for your Apple ID namelastnam" The name last name format was very very long ago and stopped using it. Always signed into iTunes and iCloud with exactly my new log in email address / pwd format.

Somehow the old format got stuck in there. After reviewing all settings on my phone they are all updated with my existing valid log in. The flag that pops up does not allow me to change the user name, and there is no way to modify it or even find where it resides. I suspect this is what caused the above issues in the first place. I can't even log in with the old user name, as I do not have the pwd and iCloud/itunes does not even accept the format 'name last name'

How do you fix this??

OK, but is the "old format" version a different Apple account than the one you are currently using? In other words, did you set up a brand new Apple ID for the current one, or did you go into the old Apple ID and EDIT it to the new name?

If you set up a brand new ID, then that means that the apps that are asking for that ID were purchased with that ID. It is probably trying to download them as a part of the backup process, and it needs the old Apple ID password to do that.

If that is the case, and you don't remember the password, then go to: Apple - My Apple ID, and answer the Security Questions so you can change the password. I would recommend making the password to that ID the same as the password to your current ID so that regardless of which one pops up asking for a password, you would just type in the one used for both.

If you don't remember the answers to your Security Questions, you will have to contact Apple Support to get a reset link (they will want you to provide an answer to at least one of the questions): ACCOUNT SECURITY SUPPORT

Or - the other option would be to identify the apps purchased with that older ID, and to delete them and re-purchase (or re-download them if they were free) them under the current ID.

Best of luck,
