None of these "solutions" address the problem and none of them fix them problem. The only reason I have 2 apple IDs is poor planning by Apple. Mobile Me users were assigned a me.com ID, despite the fact that I already had an Apple ID. Now the me.com ID has followed me to iCloud and I can't get rid of it. When I set up iCloud I attepted to use my original Apple ID but was disallowed due to it "already being in use"...by me of course, but no matter. Now I am stuck with 2 IDs. Apple has confirmed this.

To update apps, you must sign in with the original ID or repurchase it. Why would I do this? I purchased it using my ID and used it on only one device. To sync everything though I must use my me.com ID. (Remember-it can't be changed to your original ID) If you sign in with the me.com ID your account shows that you have made no purchases and therefore you have nothing to update. If you try to install the app using the new ID it tries to charge you money again. And of course you constantly have sync issues because your phone and your computer are signed in using separate Apple IDs.

Nice going Apple. Way to simplify my life.

Chris, I tried your solution but it did not work for me. I have changed my email address/sign-in at the Apple site and in ITunes both but my IPhone and IPad will not pick up the new Apple ID and there is no way to change it anywhere. When I go into Settings, Store, and touch the Apple ID which has my old email address/sign-in still, there is nothing that comes up where I can edit it. A screen comes up with my Apple ID at the top (not changeable) with with four options as follows: 1. View Apple ID (all that does is once again take me to somewhere that once again wants my Apple ID password and it has my old email address/sign-in that cannot be changed). 2. Sign Out 3. IForgot (for a password that you forgot) and 4. Cancel.

In ITune when I click on Sign In it will bring up a screen where both the User Name and Password are blank and I can fill it in with my correct information. But I simply cannot get my IPhone and IPad changed and, therefore, cannot get into ITunes at all on either device. This is really getting frustrating. I contacted ITunes Support and they could not figure it out either and advised me to go to technical support which I will not do because I will not pay for technical support. Any other suggestions?

Can you tell me where to find the Edit button once you go into Apps store and then into Categories? When I go to the bottom and click on the Apple ID, it just bring up another box with my Apple ID permanently in there (which is wrong) and four categories: View Apple ID, Sign Out, iForgot, and Cancel. There is nowhere I see an Edit button at all to edit the user name. I can find no way to change this on my IPad or IPhone. My Apple ID is correct at the Apple site and on ITunes but I cannot get it changed on my IPhone or IPad. I am about ready to scream and can get no help from ITunes.

On the iPhone and iPad, go to Settings > Store.

Tap the AppleID then Sign out.

Sign in with the correct AppleID.

There is no Edit button.

You need to Sign out then Sign in with the correct account.

So here's one for ya.

I'm signed in to the Apple store with the correct ID. I can verify this by going into settings-->itunes-->etc... Also by going into the itunes app itself and scrolling to the bottom of the screen.

Here's the problem. When I go into the app store and try updating apps that I'm absolutely certain I purchased with the ID that i'm signed in with (my ID), it asks for the password to my wife's apple ID. I could just enter her password and all is fine and dandy EXCEPT it would make me pay for the app again since it was not originally purchased under her ID.

It seems to me that somewhere in the programming some master file that lists what ID the apps should be associated with became corrupted and now shows the wrong ID. Then only way I've found around this is to update the apps in iTunes on my computer first then sync my phone. Seems to not have any problem doing it that way.

This problem seems to be isolated to my iPhone 4s as I have an iPad 1st gen signed into my apple ID and updates the same apps without any problem on the device itself. Any smart programmers out there think they could write an executable program to fix the prob?

Chris, I FINALLY got my IPhone and IPad set in Store to the right email address. The first time I tapped on my old email name it only came up with those four selections that I mentioned before. But I did it again and it finally came up with a place to put in a new email. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU as that fixed everything and ITunes is now bringing up my correct email in the sign-in screen on my IPhone and IPad. I was just about to pull all my hair out. Why ITunes could not figure this out is beyond me.

Do you have access to the email account that the email address is showing that needs to be updated. If you have access to that email account then reset the password for that account.

Follow the steps in this article to reset your password. http://support.apple.com/kb/HE36?viewlocale=en_US

If that does not work you willl need to contact iTunes support to help yiou reset your passwords for the email account you downloaded the apps with.

I have two different Apple IDs for different AppStores, one US and one German. When updating applications only one of them is suggested no matter from which ID application was originally purchased with no option to change it. So I can upgrade apps from one account normally and the only option for other is sign out, sign in with different ID, delete application and install it again. But that does not help next time upgrade will come, I should go through reinstall procedure again and again.

The strange thing is that at some unknown point “default” account have changed and now I can normally upgrade other set of applications and must reinstall another, they simply switched.

I used iFile to look into applications plist’s and saw that correct apple id’s were stored against each app. There is some global setting not equal to the ID you are currently logged in AppStore that is used as a default ID for all apps updates. Maybe somebody can point me the file with it so I can at least edit it manually.
