I know exactly what you are talking about!

My problem is very similar. No matter what I try, it keeps asking me for the old account

What do you mena "old" account? You created a new iTunes account?

Apps are linked to the account you purchased them with and cannot be changed.

If you simply updated your account name, log out of the iTunes store then log back in.

Well, I am tired to explain this again and again. Signing out does not change anything. As well as changing this in settings. And it should not because while updating application ID of purchase should be prompted, not the one you are currently logged in AppStore. A year ago on 4.3 firmware that was working well. After some months that was broken and I never saw normal behavior since then. I don’t want to make complete reset to see whether it helps or not.

Do you have two different Apple ID?

I have a similar but different problem. I've had my same apple id for going on 3 years have the Iphone4 now. When I try to update it brings up a user email that in no way is associated with me. I did all the steps and verified in the sttings that the only apple id there is mine, but wehen I update it brings up a total foreign yahoo address. i can update my apps through syncing on computer but not just on the phone. This issue just started yesterday. So weird I called apple they said go to Apple Store, thats over 100 miles away. Also this phone has never been hooked to another computer. Have I been hacked?

Same problem, all the apps on my IPhone were downloaded from my ID but when I hit update all, it asks me for an ID of a friend who's iPhone I once updated... I have tried everything except delete all my apps and redownload them which is nonsense, this is just ridiculous!!!

APPLE, fix it or tell us how you ******!!!!!

or maybe a samsung galaxy S3 will have to fix this problem

Just the other day I saw that "groupon" had an update so I tried to update it with no luck of course... Asks me for an ID that isn't mine. So I go ahead and delete & reinstall it... All is well, until today when I realize there is yet another update for this app... So I go ahead and click update in this specific app. Surprise surprise, asks me for her ID again...

Superrr peeveedddd right now

I am pulling my hair out, I am having a very similar issue and cannot find a solution. I believe the issue started when I got my iPad, but I'm not sure.

I can update and purchase apps from the iPad with no problem, but I try from the iPhone, my id or password is incorrect. I have confirmed the address/login information in settings, as well as in the store. I have synced my phone in iTunes, and I confirmed the username and password there (I am able to successfully log in to the iPad and iTunes with the same id/password).

I have restarted the phone. Nothing is working. The ONLY thing I think it MIGHT be is that my email is zooreturns@xxxxx, but when I attempt to purchase or update from the app store, it's showing the user as just "zooreturns". When I go to the store to see which ID is logged in, it does show the zooreturns@. I have logged out and logged back in, but it's still just showing "zooreturns" when I try to update.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is just driving me bonkers!!

I sympathize completely.

This problem just appeared out of the blue. I was online, browsing with Safari, got kicked off, tapped to go back on and POOF! all tabs & history gone. I went into settings signed out and back in. Reset Safari, restarted iPad, went to App Store and tried to download updates. 1 worked and the other 4 would not. the Apple ID it prompts me to use is not used on the iPad. The Apple ID it shows in the app store IS the one used on the pad. The Apple ID it prompts me to input a password for upon download IS NOT.

The pad has never been plugged into a computer and never used by anyone else. All accounts on the pad are associated with 1 Apple ID. All apps have been downloaded thru the store with that ID.

i'm going bonkers too!
