Need Updated Browser

Hi Gang

I'm looking for a newer browser, but I'm staying with 10.4.11

Fire Fox 4 will not work with 10.4.11, neither will Safari 5

I've also read complaints about compatibility issues with Fire Fox 3.6

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanx

Mike

We need to keep in mind the definitions/caveats from the TenFourFox developer's site:

TenFourFox requires a G3 Power Macintosh,
Mac OS X v10.4.11 or Mac OS X v10.5.8,
100MB of free disk space and 256MB of RAM.

Video playback will be poor on systems slower than 1.25GHz; we recommend a G5.

Intel Macintoshes are not supported (and will be mercilessly mocked)

It's optimized for a Power Mac G5 running Tiger 10.4.11. Period.

Just because it happens to run on a higher version of OS X or on a Mac-Intel, it doesn't mean that it is remotely recommended.

And, yes, it runs snappier in Tiger than in Leopard—let alone Snow Leopard. (Duh!)

Ramon, that's exactly the point!! I also use that quote from the TFF website in a previous message. The whole purpose of TFF is ANTI-INTEL!! It's to continue supporting PPC Tiger users up to a G5, that's it. You retain the FF folder in "user/library/applications support/firefox" because that is where your FF profile is from which TFF gets your Bookmarks, extensions, all your FF settings so the transition to TFF is seemless. I won't update after TFF 5.0 because I rely on the plugins such as Quicktime, PDF Browser, Divx Web Player, Flip for Mac, Java, Shockwave Flash, Google Earth, Microsoft Silverlight, VLC Player so that I can virtually play anything. To me, as not much of a techie, this setup gives me the flexibility what I want. Ken.

Sorry Mike, Mrs H needs to start her own thread on this.

There's no way to Unregister, you could change your eMail, but IIRC there are two places in your profile to edit eMail notifications, which I've never used.

Others, Mrs H wants a Browser that will run on an IntelMac in Tiger, hopefully she'll start a question if she needs more help... SORRY Mike! 😟

Hello everyone

I apparently started this discussion sometime ago, but would like to stop recieving notifications. I've unchecked every possible box to answer 'NO', but still continue to receive notifications. Does anyone know how to temporarily leave the discussions? Unregister?

Thank you

Mike

mea culpa Mike, 😟

I had started another thread, but some of what you said here seemed so relevant to it, I just had to respond and question. my bad.

I wish I could help you stop receiving notifications. I am replying here and now to you; I'll write one other reply here to Ramón and then not come here again. So, you should ignore the simultaneous notifications for this thread that you get now. (Honestly, I hadn't thought about the fact that people "owned" their threads - I'd never intentionally hijack another thread, but I have inserted myself in a discussion if it seems timely and important.)

On the other hand, this little contretemps did get me to look at your profile page, which sent me to look at North Africa 1942-43 Survivors' Stories - very interesting, thank you.

Again, I am terribly sorry,

...Once again, for TenFourFox, Firefox 3.x is now utterly irrelevant. The purpose of TFF is to bring to Tiger users the functionalitry of current versions of Firefox so that we can go where Firefox 3.x can't. The current non-beta version of TFF is v. 6.0.1, which is far, far ahead of Firefox 3.x that you inexplicably keep bringing up....

Ramón, thank you very much for your reply and your patience.

I can just hear the frustration in your voice. I am sorry to have asked this question in another version here and am sorry to have disturbed you so. I really am a nice person, a lady of a certain age just trying to learn as much as she can here.

Let me just explain why I "inexplicably keep bringing up" Ff3. As you know It's the latest version of Ff I can use on my (Intel) Mac running Tiger. Of course, it's the latest version anyone using a PPC Mac can run as well, so I should have figured that out and realized that it's a no-brainer.

And yes, I read the disclaimer on the TFF site now that it's up and running again, mocking those of us who, through no fault of our own, had to resort to Intel Macs (my G4 died; my iBook is dying; Mr H still uses his Powerbook 170 but that's on system 7.5 and another story entirely) - but it seems as if it's my best choice if I like the options of Firefox and want to continue using Tiger.

In any case, thanks for your help and as I promised Mike above, you won't see me here again,

Mrs H

Users of Tiger are out on the limb already. We are all using unsupported software. What difference does it make if you are running another unsupported product like TenFourFox on an intel Mac on Tiger?

Firefox 4.0 & 5.0 on the Mac require an Intel processor &

Operating Systems

Mac OS X 10.5

Mac OS X 10.6

What a user to do if they want to us Firefox?

Some user do not like change.
