It does exist. The whole user Library folder is hidded in Lion. To get to it, hold down the option key and select Go > Library from the Finder menu bar.
Thanks for your answer, I was having the same problem. You saved me a lot of time!
🙂
I am getting the following message when I attempt to launch mail:
You have Mail version 4.4 (1082/1084). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button.
Can someone explain the problem and give me a solution to fixing it?
THANKS!
Mail just crashed and I had to restart the computer. Now I cannot access the mail application anymore - the path seems to have got lost. I just get prompted to set up a mail account... Is there any way to retrieve my mail?
Thank you!!
Hi there!
Can you please specify in wich OS are working with, so that we can figure out the best context to help?
Also, one of the best options you have is to use Time Machine if you have it working to trace back to a working state of your Mail app. It's not unusual for a configuration file to get corrupted, and it's the most effective way to recover it.
Best luck!
Hi,
I am working with snowleopard, 10.6.8.
I have used time machine to keep a backup on an external harddrive, but is there a way to just go back a few hours in time? My last back-up on the harddrive is about two weeks old as I have been (still am) traveling...
Thanks!!
Well, only if you keep the hard drive connected to your computer..
If it's a week old, then that's the state you can return to.
I'm thinking it's the com.apple.mail.plist file that's corrupted. If you can find it in your most recent backup, keep the current one and replace it with the one that's on your backup.
When it starts up it should rebuild the email database, and you should be up and going.
Think about keeping your Time Machine connect more often...
Best regards
Thank you for the reply... yes... I agree that I should have more frequent backups!
Was able to fix mail just by going through the set-up again - mail found all my previous mail folders. phew!
Help, our mail will not load for over two days.
Hi there!
What's your OS?
Will it simply not load, or does it report an error?
Last but not least: do you have any recent backups, or ideally, Time Machine working?
Best of luck!
Okay, to get i right: First adding all accounts in preferences. Then I have to rebuild the previous local file structure and then import all mail(boxes) from the folders moved to the desktop before?!
The mail should be on the same level but working. *fingers crossed*
